Milo is a blast of a character as someone who has a younger brother. One thing i notice from him is that he always gets cut short by vi. She Constantly undermines and puts him down. like when she didn't let him pick the lock or tells him to shut up to protect powder. its very interesting as it makes me ask chicken or egg. Did vi start this with milo because of his picking on powder or did he start picking on powder because of her. We also see that he is capible when given the chance with when he free's vander. If given a chance he could have probebly gone quite far and "Season 2 spoilers" is what makes me think that.

I just noticed that in the song hatchet town someone sings the line “I heard that the brains were soup. Their intestines were cut in two. So it's gotta be Donna” assuming what he heard was correct…..those were some pretty deep and brutal lacerations to the of what sounds like almost or actually cutting Richie in half! 😢

Even if he genuinely was a mean ass he is still young. Twelve? That is how he comes across to be but even if he is fifteen. People change. He is a kid and he dies is a particularly brutal way. Impaired and stuck next to his brother who is down. And he looked and crushed. Just awful. What ever else he did not deserve to die.

And also there’s the “The blood is all but draining from my head. The nightmare started there but now has spread” makes it sound like the first actual injury he got was one of the lacerations to the head (just a thought)

They could NEVER make me hate this guy. The fact that we see so little of Mylo makes me so sad. Not just because I like him, but also because we get such a small view of who he is. People think he's a massive asshole to Powder, and he certainly isn't nice to her, but we see like two days of his entire life! Two days that would've been forgotten if everything hadn't gone terribly. But because of everything that occured, he's defined and vilified for the dickish, painfully middle-child comments he made. Mylo's not some massive cocky asshole who just bullies Powder for fun. He's an insecure teenager who knows he's not the best at anything, and so he picks on his younger sister to try to feel just as confident as he pretends to be. Aughhhh. Why was I cursed to have MYLO as my favorite Arcane character? I miss him...I miss him so much. I'm begging the creators for just ONE flasback to Vi and Powder's childhood where Mylo ISN'T being a jerk. Please! Please, the fandom needs to realize he's not a one-dimensional prick! Anywho! I love this analysis. Season 2 is coming out soon so videos like this are helping me stay sane in the meantime.

"I once was his tutor, then i thought of my future" It's a self fulfilling prophecy that he doesn't try to fight. The nerd who says this line doesnt even indicate that anything in particularly happened to make her reconsider. Its likely that she didnt even try out of fear. Even if Max DID want to turn his grades around, who would even help him? Even if he forced someone to help him, the nerds would rather avoid him than risk his attention at all. Kinda like how even the other nerds dont like Grace. Actually, come to think of it, he and Grace seem to have a lot of parallels. Both are golden children who seem to be constantly at risk of disapproval at the slightest misstep. He has to be strong, Grace has to be chaste, and if they slip up? We dont even know what kinds of punishment the Chasitys use, but i doubt they spare the rod.

A part that makes his death far sadder is that in the song, Max is obviously talking about how no one cared about his death while he threatens Richie, and the worst part is that no one cares when Richie dies. Sure, Pete says “Richie died!?” But that’s the only time they mention him after his death. Sad.

There was also the quote during the song of Max saying “this is the consequence of you’ve done.” Maybe referring to how Richie took his place, being one of the first to destroy the hierarchy and Max’s work.

I interpret the "Of course not.. but you have lost everything" line as Max fighting against Richie's logic of the "I am not a loser" by taking it into a literal sense. What Richie has lost is his status by the others, he lost being left out, he lost being a loser. To gain all of the ease that he does now he had to lose the fear. He has essentially lost everything. Max saying this makes it so Richie can't even comfort himself because if he had just kept on being a loser in the school's eyes he wouldn't be in this position. At least that's how I interpret it.

Ha you didn’t even get into how horrific and terrible drowning is. As a lifeguard they teach you and it is one of the worst ways to fuckn go. Nothing but panic and struggle as your body fights to stay alive. Even if you survive depending on how many MINUTES you were struggling it can leave you with permanent brain damage. It’s the most helpless and horrific deaths. It can happen really quickly too but for the person I bet it feels longer.

I would still argue he cared they (technically) killed him. There's too much projection in lines like "Who will pray for me when I'm gone...or is this the eternal dark without a dawn" for that not to be the case.. Perhaps, more specifically, he cared about their desecration of his corpse without any consideration that someone in his life might desire a place to come remember him The thing that fascinates me with this musical, though, is the relationship between Max & Grace. Complementary home-life trauma that led them to become very similar monsters in the end. I find it's very easy to picture that had Grace not lost her shit over her "awakening" (5 people dead, a whole town traumatized. It was a mess), they might have turned out to be a good couple for each other, either to the benefit or trauma of the rest of Hatchetfield. Grace, obviously, has an interest in him but Max clearly showed legitimate feelings for her as well: His more natural demeanor comes out when she's around. The numerous biblical references he makes, again including the idea of someone praying for him. While his spirit chased her, he never really threatened her specifically with death despite being the mastermind of the prank that killed him. And then there's the romance short-hand asking her to cuddle after her...gift. Even if he was awful in how he approached it, there was something there that could have veered the musical out of tragedy if the villains weren't so committed to staying in the boxes they made for themselves.

Oof, parts of this hit so hard! I grew up with a narcisscistic parent. My mother was never popular in high school and wanted to mold me into the pretty, popular girl with all the friends she wanted to be. When I turned out shy and introverted and became Goth, she loudly spoke out against my interests and said multiple derogatory things to me, things that still sting even though I am an adult.

No one batted an eye when Max went missing. No search parties, no tears, no prayers. Just joy. And when he was found dead, no one prayed for him, but they praised the nerds who mutilated his body once he was gone. Even the people he considered his friends admitted to better lives without Max. He hated himself and was broken beyond repair once he realized that everyone else hated him too. Then he made it their problem.

I think the line 'Or until another Richie comes along' is genius and dark. It's basically what happened to Max. His last thoughts as he dies are 'Who will pray for me when I'm gone?', only to come back and see that Richie has basically replaced him, becoming friends with his team, becoming an important member to the team, becoming another 'Max'... or in this case, a 'nerdy Max that they like more because he's not a bully', as we see people celebrating that fact that Max had died. Max is taunting Richie, saying that there will always be another Richie who will take his place after he dies, just like how Max was replaced. They aren't important enough to be remembered, at least not to most, and especially not to Hatchetfield. Remember, their deaths were only an afterthought in the news, the most important news being the loss to Clivesdale.

The fact that Max's dad would call him--of all words--a _cuck_ has some...intriguing implications. As if his dad was the one who cuckholded him and seduced one of his girlfriends, which 😬 yikes. I'm only five minutes in, so idk if you address this or not.

It's funny how true this is cause the only person I know who I would identify as "cool" is also sneaky as hell. The vibe is "you only notice me if I choose to be noticed," If mylo had embraced that he'd have gotten way farther.

Right from the beginning, I agree with you about the 2 overused types of villains. I will say that both types can be done very well (like the Joker for Type A), but, yes, they are often done poorly these days. I feel like villains either get too much backstory or not enough.

You know what's insane. This hiding your insecurity with bluster is literally what JINX is. She's a persona used to protect the insecurity. Powder was tormented by Milo but SHE BECAME HIM.

This may be the first (if not only) good video I've seen talk about Mylo. It covers so many good points that I myself have been at least trying to explain to the fandom since I first really got attached to Mylo (largely on Tumblr so I can just yap endlessly). I think the most important one is that Mylo continues being noisy and acts snotty and brash because of the way Vi and Claggor treat him. Being isolated the way he is would just make him act out more and make less effort to improve himself/his skills. The one major thing I disagree on is that he projects his insecurity on Powder. He absolutely *is* insecure, but he's also making valid points about her being a liability to the group. Vi and Clag know this too, but Vi always giving her a pass for everything while bullying Mylo just makes the situation worse. Of course he should have dropped the issue after Powder apologized, but if she's causing problems day after day, it makes sense that he's as livid as he is. It seems like I'm in the minority on this take, but I see Mylo's insecurity and his beef with Powder as two separate issues. Sorry for the long-winded comment lol, but I too adore Mylo. I was a lot like him as a kid, and yeah, according to a lot of the fandom, I'd also deserve to die. Like you said, it definitely feels like he was made to be hated, and that genuinely upsets me. We barely got to know him but "mean 2 powder" is all the fandom sees him as. It sucks. Mylo deserved so much better. Thank you for this video.

I think the timing isn’t just because max’s kingdom has been upended, but also because of his victims’ individual arcs. He chooses to take out both Richie and Ruth at their personal high points. Richie says he loves being alive, Ruth has a moment in the spotlight, imaginary though it may be. He takes them out at the moment at which they’re happiest. The two-week hiatus was just more teasing, letting them feel like they’ve escaped, allowing them a moment of joy before destroying them. Their worst crime isn’t succeeding in changing the rules he established for the school, it’s daring to be happy when he decreed they couldn’t.
