After years and years of judo, practising and coaching (85 yrs old) I always turn to Neil to see judo perfection. As he says, technical skill is everything.

A guy from my dojo does this extending the right arm, I feel my wrist it hurts like that so I prefer a loose lapel like in the video---

I remember seeing Neil Adams fighting in the World Championships in Maastricht and in the British Open. Often players of his caliber don't make good teachers. But in this video I can see that he is an excellent teacher.

i couldn't appreciate this video couple years ago, now it's really helpful. Very often I find myself learning new things watching judo instruction videos that I have watched before.

While I was never in Neil's class, I had a good tai-o; and you'll find that once you've too soon turned that right hand so that its palm is facing the same way you are, you're in trouble. Keep the back of your hand looking at you head as long as possible, and do everything else Neil says here, you'll break his balance. Just wanted to help....

My pleasure! I wouldn't remember my comment from two years ago either :) Besides this : how refreshing to get a youtube reply withing being called names or being insulted. Thanks.

Neil Adams has one of the best Tai Otoshis ever and literally wrote a book about it! Best tai otoshi I have seen on youtube. This is possibly the most mis-understood throw IMO.

this helped soooo much. After doing tai otoshi my shoulder always feels like I pulled it. It's because my arm always gets left behind. not anymore though thanks to this video. Thank you so much.

Awesome video, thanks for sharing. There is an apparent hole online of quality examples of good tai otoshi technique, and who better to instruct this brilliant throw than the tai-otoshi expert himself!

Thanks so much for the video. Just a quick question, in order to kick high, do you need strength, or a lot of muscle in the legs? mainly the thigh? Or is it all about flexibility? Thanks.

@SimohammeD007 Just keep stretching slowly and kicking slowly and you should start making progress. Also make sure your kicking technique is correct and try to achieve a round fluent motion. Cheers.

@rougechampion Thanks for the comment. This is JuJutsu, and helping my friend fall is a common courtesy. Besides you dont want to lose too much distance to remain in control of the situation. Cheers.

Hey, I have a question, I was stretching for a a few days now and I can get my leg up high but I can't fully extend it, it's always bent through the knee, which muscles should I stretch to get it to extend fully?

I'm 16 years of age and 6ft tall, I cannot kick my leg higher than my waist as awful as that sounds, I'm looking to be able to do what you do, side sicks, martial arts kicks alot more height etc. If I do these excercises daily, in time will I be able to do such things?

@NOMADSCrysis Because of the risk of ligament injury.
