I can totally relate to this song. I wasn’t very popular in high school. I was a geek on some levels as deathly afraid of talking to girls.

This one song is an absolute masterpiece and for me makes everything boring Taylor Swift has done worthless

It’s a strange thing that some of the most horrendous abusers of children from the USA in the news this year have been beautiful looking tall, slim, blue eyed, blonde haired women with perfect teeth ? Makes me happy to be a slightly overweight 5 foot wrinkled old hag with seven happy children and many more grandchildren. Classic song…wonderful xx

I relate to this song. I went from 5ft 2 inches in1972 to 5 ft 8 inches by the 1976. Ended at 5 foot 10". Finally came into my own during college in 1979-1983.

An honest song that applies to those of us who were average looking, no family money, but happy. Through hard work & good choices, many of us scraped together money to finish college and live our dreams. I understand this song more than I did when it was released.

I remember valentine's that never came, and getting picked last for basketball. No kidding, painfully shy as a child. Isn't it something how childhood pain never really leaves you?

Watched this song upside down every time she came on TV to learn the chords, along with a cassette recorded from the TV speaker. That was how you learned a song back then...❤

I didn't know where I fit in. I lived in a very white school district/neighborhood and was bi-racial (chinese/white) when that was unusual. I was in my 30's when I finally realized I was considered an exotic beauty. I never really gained any confidence despite that because I wanted people - especially men - to value my intelligence over my appearance.

I was a gay kid growing up at a time when it was very much a demerit. There were others but everyone sought to be straight. This song brings back bittersweet memories.
