It's amazing how many of these native drummers are on You Tube. Equally amazing is the fact that they all sound virtually the same. I can only figure that it takes very little talent to do that.

Actually, there's a bit of a misconception here. Each instrument, whether it's the guitar or the djembe, brings its own unique flavor to music. While the guitar may be relatively young compared to the ancient tradition of the djembe, it still has its own depth and charm. Learning to appreciate the nuances of each instrument requires some training, much like learning a new language. It's understandable if you're not familiar with West African drumming; it's a vast and rich tradition that can take time to explore fully. So, instead of thinking all rhythms sound the same, maybe consider exploring different tracks or styles to broaden your musical horizons. Who knows, you might discover something new and exciting!

Wow, this duet is amazing. I have to be honest, your last video was awesome, I really liked how you went ALL the way in and played the djembe drum EXTREMELY well, and also your friend too, it was out of this WORLD! BTW, you two make a very FANTASTIC duo playing together, you definitely deserve an award for that, spectacular job! Keep up the good work, keep on pushing, and don't let anything stop you guys, because you are masterpieces! 💯 🏆 😎 I also have a quick question: What's that big round thing and that small drum called?
@timdruma

Thanks for the thoughtful reply. The two round drums which are played with a stick are called Dunduns. Large one one is Dundunba and smaller one is sangban 👍🏽

I fell in love with this rhythm and this is my first time seeing this video. I have been a djembefola since June 3rd 1984 and have considered myself a life long student of these beautiful hand percussion instruments. I've been very blessed to still be drumming 38 years and counting God be willing. This has me hooked

He looked very frustrated with the Dunun drummer. The Dunun drummer must not have been playing the rhythm right or not fully played properly

No hate or anything but I dont like how no one else got a solo in, not even just to here other people play but just to here different drums trading positions in the ryhthm. His so is nice, but a little more technical than melodic in my opinion.

If you want to do ‘free’ and often badly executed solos go to a drum circle, this is clearly a lesson to understand the basics

The rhythm is there, the doun player is there and almost the djembe as well since the solo phrases are correct. But I would suggest you to work a bit more on the technique before doing solo phrases and then work on the solos. Definitely your solos will be then more clear 👌
