Something cool about Kensuke Ushio working with prepared pianos: for the soundtrack in A Silent Voice, he took apart an upright piano so he could put a microphone inside it, meaning that whenever a key was hit every little movement inside could be heard.

I love Houseki no Kuni ❤. Same as Made in Abyss, I'll never regret having given them a chance in 2017. I was so blown away as at that time most anime had started to tire me. Thanks so much for this great analysis, instant sub 🩷. I hope to see you grow bigger ✨

The piano reminds me of Phos’s theme. The piano and erhu dancing together is like the story of Phos and Cinnabar, with the piano grounding the track as well as taking over the erhu theme. This is like how Phos is calling out to Cinnabar, begging them to stay on earth and offering them hope that they will find a job for them. And the erhu represents Cinnabar, in its heartbreaking sound of loneliness and despair.

I love this soundtrack! But Shabu mentioned that Made in Abyss has a better soundtrack. I loved the Made in Abyss anime but I really wasn't impressed by its soundtrack. So does he have like a top 5 tracks or something so I can see what he likes about it?

Thank you for the video!! after listening to your explanation and how it was done it reminded me of Morricone's the crisis were the constant "bad note" is the thing that makes the piece of music appealing and beautiful even if still full of unsettling and kind of sad emotions

I was unaware of the concept of "prepared piano". I think it's pretty fascinating, I already adored Liz and the blue bird's OST before, but thanks to you I found new appreciation. Thank you ❤

This is an amazing video. I read the manga all the way through first (when we were at chapter 99) and then watched the anime. And damn, I was BLOWN AWAY by how amazing of an adaptation it is. The animation, the music, the sound effects... you hit the nail on the head. The soundtrack and direction is fucking FANTASTIC. I hope every day we get a season 2. There's such a unique richness to Land of the Lustrous that makes it stand out among its peers both in anime and manga. It's made with whole heart- no fanservice, no beach episode... it's just so beautiful and so deeply written.

I think the speed difference can also be interpreted to have a meaning: L excels at quick plans that nobody anticipated and force others to be very careful (he is, after all, an investigator so an intelligence style similar that fits interrogations makes sense), while Light/Kira is better at making long cons that completely dumbfound anyone who has less information than him. L as a detective only needs the suspect to slip up and incriminate themselves once, and he's awesome at that because his strengths are smart quick moves that destabilize a criminal's focus. I also think that is why he originally didn't want to just lock Light up for a period of time; slow, long-term plans are not his specialty Light as an internationally wanted criminal who plans to take over the world and rule it as its god has more defensive, long con plans. He tends to slip up and make what gets memed as dumb mistakes when subjected to faster genius moves like L's, which is why L narrows his position down to the Kanto region of Japan so early on, but he also comes up with a plan that very nearly won. Of course L has the biggest knowledge advantage in the end which is that he is not the only threat to Kira and Near exists and in the end, L won by proxy

If you haven't already, try listening to some Genshin Impact OST, especially from the Liyue region. Genshin is an anime style RPG that has different fantasy regions that have basis on real world cultures and each region has many many hours of soundtrack dedicated to it. Liyue is the region inspired by Chinese culture and the soundtrack reflects that and makes heavy use of the Erhu. I absolutely love the soundtrack and I think it can be enjoyed even if you don't play the game.

I consumed every title from Liz and a blue bird and other music from Kensuke Ushio because he's a great artist, and I think these songs are just perfect. I really wouldn't have thought that I would find this randomly, such a masterpiece with only 2000 views. This really feels like a hidden gem on KZbin. You did very well, I hope you're doing good even if you didn't upload since 2 years ^^

Thanks for your analysis of the piece and of liz! I could never vibe to contemporary music as properly or as attentively until I listened to the bgm while watching the movie. I think contemporary music in liz really brought out the natural ambience of sound, and it was pretty surreal to experience it. It's similar to how I felt when watching Joker 2019, where the music provided a very telling idea of how the characters were feeling. prepared pianos are so cool!

Even if one did not know these details, gauging how good of an OST they are solely on the quantity of tracks is already a slippery slop. I'm sure said friends have at least learned after having an exchange with you, and one more person acknowledging the hardworks behind creating is a net positive.
