it has been a long long time since I've seen this movie. I was around fifteen. I rented it an evening. I don't remember the story but I know it was not disapointing. Then it disapeared from the videostore and I could not remember its title. Forgot about it. And now this thumbnail; the helmet and cockpit felt familiar; I thought I was exagerating; but the walking on the pad, wow, it's TheMovie! Thanks alot! RobotJox? I wonder if they made figures from it. Realy cool to see again 👍

I remember seeing this on tape during my teenage years. The "Dirty Communists" trope was a bit behind the times, given that relations between the United States and Soviet Union were starting to improve when the movie came out. The robot fight scenes were well-done for the time. Looking back, I can see one similarity to the BATTLETECH/MECHWARRIOR franchise: Here, disputes are settled by gladiatorial combat with giant mechs. The Clans of MECHWARRIOR did similar, settling conflicts with trials of combat involving limited numbers of people/equipment with specific rules of engagement. Civilian lives and infrastructure were thus spared.

There’s a lot of discussion surrounding this being remade. I’m good with that as long as the practical effects remained integral to the remake. Remember, it was because of the miniatures and practical effects that this movie was so good. CGI could help in some places of course, but don’t let them dominate it.
