Things are starting to get back to normal. Supposed to be going to Alaska again in a couple weeks. I have been 3 or 4 times since December dealing with some family stuff. I have a couple major issues to deal with on the new bus before it’ll be ready to roll, which is likely going to be in august.

The dealerships have very few real technicians anymore. I'm glad that you finally got it fixes. Me friend says that they find lots of pin fitment issues with the can bus data connections. Sometimes just unplugging and plugging it back in fixes the issue. Crazy stuff with these new vehicles. Thanks Scott!
@ThisOldBus19 күн бұрын
Yeah I was wondering if the act of simply replugging things would have fixed it. I saved the old connector just in case. Disgrace that they had it 2 months without fixing that.
@rodneymiddleton962419 күн бұрын
@@ThisOldBus They obviously didn't look at the bus signal with a scope or they would have seen the corrupt data and traced it down or realized the termination resistor was open. Thanks Scott.
@ThisOldBus19 күн бұрын
If this wasn’t the fix I would have needed to break out the oscilloscope myself. The location of the termination resistors isn’t documented anywhere, though. I was concerned the termination might have been inside one of the computers at an end of the bus and not externally accessible.

About a half day or more depending on how much you stop. Easily doable in the summertime with the long days. Be mindful of the time zone and hours that the border is open, it is not 24 hrs a day and there may be a timezone change involved if you are cutting it close.

I've never had a Detroit Diesel, but why is a coolant temperature of 195 degrees an issue? Most cars run somewhere in the neighborhood of 215 degrees without issue, Is it because this engine has an aftercooler?
@ThisOldBus5 ай бұрын
That’s where I set my warning, over 200 is cause for concern, 210 you might be looking at engine damage, 215-220 you almost certainly have ruined it. I want to start making other plans at 195, 200 you better be pulling over and letting her cool off (I’ve never had to do that, but I will be downshifting or looking for the crest of the hill). They like to run cool and there isn’t a lot of room for error. 185 is normal operating temp on these old 2-stroke Detroit’s. They will make a lot of heat pulling a grade, cooling system needs to be in good working order, and if you turn up the power the cooling system needs upgrade too. Series 60 probably different and has computers to keep things in check.

Scott additional question: Did you ever consider looking for a Buffalo Coach a 4107. It would have had more horse power than a 4106 would it NOT?
@ThisOldBus5 ай бұрын
Our first bus was a 4107 before we had a KZbin channel. They have the same engine stock, so no more power. Bigger bays on a 4107. The drawback of a 4107 is they used dissimilar metals on more of the bus and many of them will have corrosion in the skin unless perhaps they’ve been stored inside most of their lives. The 4106 only has steel in the front around some of the windows, which is also a common corrosion area, but on the 4107 they used steel and aluminum on the sides too.
