Great info Frazier! We have a 10" cast iron unmarked vintage frying pan. It was passed down to us from my Mother 45 years ago. She had it passed down to her from her Mom. 😔...I think cast iron is awesome but for all the sturdy they can be, I break them. I think I'm just doing it wrong and my grandmothers are gone. They're not here to ask anymore. Edited to add: No matter what I do I have managed to ruin the seasoning. I bought lodge pans from tiny up to the dutch oven. I really like them. They just, so far, haven't liked me.

@@franny5295 Hey Franny. It’s good to hear from you again. I plan to present some tips for using vintage cast iron soon that may address your issues - but I’d like to learn more about your problems. First, what type of cast iron are you using? Did you really break one or two? If so how? Regarding that seasoning - that’s a very complex issue that is rarely discussed in full detail. If the seasoning layer is flaking off, it probably was not applied well and needs to be completely removed and started again. I’d love to talk with you more about this. Thanks for watching and posting this note.

@@fearfeasog First, we try to cook, eat, and clean up before dark (when raccoons come out) Eva usually washes dishes on the camp picnic table in warm water in one of our cook pots heated on the stove or campfire - usually a 4-quart enamelware pot. I usually rinse the dishes by pouring cold water over them and catching the sudsey water in a grey water bucket. Then I dry and put them away while Eva cleans the table and gets the garbage ready. We usually discard the garbage on the way to the shower house. Thanks for the note.

Best tips ever! (Many were an idea in my head for a future segment!) I also prefer nesting needed pots rather than collapsible silicone (STS). A collapsible sink is about the only folding silicone I want to fight with.😅🤣 And still amazing to me is that the can opener is not on all camp essential lists. Thank you for your expertise! Discovered you and your family several years ago. I have been camping since the 70s! I like how you reference what you used to do and the benefits of what you learned and what you do now. I am always surprised when I discover a tip you advise that I have learned the hard way also! I have a lot of history with tents, tables, chairs, organizing, and setup! But, I still have discovered 2 important things from you: that I learned what you describe and I redid my setup to better suit my needs and there are still things I can learn and do better even after 50 years! You mention weight and packing. Very important. So conscious of how I pack and if what I pack will serve its purpose. Less is more! Because of you, I expanded my camp kitchen concept. Now use my screened canopy for a kitchen area instead of the picnic table. TY! Game changer! In 1970, I learned how to pack my coolers for a long stay for a family of 10 in desert heat. Meal planning & ice blocks. Would love to see you describe what you do. Do you have a video for that? Thanks again, you & your wife are awesome ❤

@@markchambers2812 Hey Mark. That is a good question. I have owned many brands that I liked over the years and I can’t say I like one brand more than another. After thinking about this question, I would say that I like a hat that fits well and feels comfortable. At present, my 2 favorite straw hats are two no name hats that I bought in Mexico on two different trips. In the past I liked a Stetson hat, a Connors hat, and a cheap Panama Jack hat I found in a Florida convenience store. One thing I have learned is that it takes several years before most people including myself can quickly identify a hat that fits well versus one that fits poorly - and I have bought several hats that I’ve only worn a few times. So, try on new hats as often as possible to get the feeling of different hats. Another thing I learned is - don’t handle a straw hat at the pinch front. If you do, you’ll quickly make a hole there. Hope this answer is helpful. Thanks for the question.
