My partner's old man flew god knows how may combat missions in the air force. Vietnam, Korea. Then he became a flight instructor doing combat training in T-38's. One day he was up with a student going over some maneuvers. No big deal and then when they went to come back, nose gear wouldn't go down. They had to put the aircraft down on the runway without a nose gear. Everyone was ok but the point of this story is despite saving an aircraft. His fault or not, he damaged an aircraft. DOD never let him get behind a stick again. Point being. If you crash an aircraft, in the US Military. Doesn't matter what branch. If while responsible for a US fighter jet. Training or not. Your fault or not. They will never, ever give you a chance to damage or crash and aircraft twice because 100% of the data is clear. Once you crash or damage an aircraft, you are more likely to do it again than someone that hasn't. It's just statistics and the pentagon does not take chances with hardware that expensive. Especially when it's dangerous enough as it is. I know there's a lot of things in this movie that would never, could never happen. But that one. It's just like rubbing salt in the wound. If they're just going to ignore everything about reality. They should have gone hard and made them fly go bots or transformers. This whole movie has more in common with lord of the rings than it does real combat pilots.
