I first heard Howard Levy sitting in on an out of this world album by Freyda Epstein (RIP) "Midnight At Cabel Hall" back in the early 90s. I had never heard harmonica playing like this, just reacting to the wonderful music going on around him, ,supporting the song without any of the usual harp cliches, but with full command of every harmonica technique element I had ever heard. When I found out that this was happening on a diatonic, my mind was totally blown! Even on this video, he immediately uses the opportunity to explain how all of this technique opened itself up to him. He knows he's talking to harmonica nerds, so that's greatly appreciated. He will always be known as the genius who opened up chromatic playing on the diatonic! However, that's just the tip of the iceberg! It's his musicianship as a member of a group that floors me! How does he think on his feet like that! Link to one of the songs he did with Freyda Epstein ..... kzbin.info/www/bejne/npm5lpKQdtB5oqcsi=F3CQ9p2Z5osKk6qE

I happen to be going back and binging old Northern Exposure episodes on Amazon Prime video these days. The original time around back in the 90s, I remember being super impressed with the chromatic playing I was hearing. Nowadays, it feels like magic that I can immediately look the guy up on the amazing digi-nets! So true about what is in the description above. Everybody immediately thinks of Stevie and Toots when they hear a chromatic, but it was immediately apparent to me that the sound I was hearing on Northern Exposure only vaguely resembled those players. As Toots so graciously put it, this guy definitely has "his own thing". Less obvious with the bending, and a rounder sound that puts things more toward a darker tone. Holy cow! The guy did a TED talk! kzbin.info/www/bejne/eZrPiaWJjrJ0brcsi=cFyrSl6NxIFsKNoT

This is very informative. I recently acquired an antique harmonica from my grandfather's passing, and it's a Hohner Echo No. 605 from what the box says. I don't know when he bought it, but it looks to be maybe from the 50s or 60s. Anyhow, I'd like to request that Hohner Service Workshops do a video for proper disassembly and repair for that particular model or a model that's fairly similar. Thought it'd be nice to at least have an idea on how to maintain it.

Great player & teacher! I have been playing harp off & on since grade school and I’m 63 now. It wasn’t until I realized that technique plays a bigger part in my harp playing than the harp itself. I stop looking for the harp that was going to make me sound better and focused on the technique I was using to attack the harmonica. Bends, single notes, cords and overblows all went to another level. Pay attention to technique!

Sorry Hohner. I have no address to the style of music you presented in the video. It is simply noise to me. There is no Melody. I like the music that Hugo Diaz played. I love the dynamite effect I get when I play the Sonata by Henri Eccles on my Hohner 16-holers. Two other brands of 16 hole chromatic harmonicas do not allow me to vary the tone color as the Hohner chromatic harmonicas do. -. Back to the topic of the video that you sent: The sounds that guys makes with your 10 hole diatonic harmonica is as musically pleasing is the sound of an automobile with two flat tires, dragging its underside on a concrete street.

This video is nearly irrelevant due to the fact that the "Hohner Harmonica Tuner" doesn't exist. Does it?
