A totally unscripted reaction from JP to finding out one guitar is Madagascar Rosewood occurs at 1:33. Blink and you'll miss it.

I played a mahogany Gallagher for the first time last month. Incredible volume, note separation, tone and playability. I agree one hundred percent with JP.

That's some fine playing! The notes ring out strong and the guitars are voiced to go well together. A fine piece of work! Addie- You clearly have command of a dreadnought and I realize it's the preferred weapon for bluegrass, but have you considered a small jumbo (SJ) like something modeled after a Gibson J-185 or, perhaps, a Martin M-36? I believe Gallagher's new jumbo is based on the larger Gibson J-200, which is even more robust than a dreadnought (I could be wrong about which Gibson and if I am, my apologies). An SJ sits nicely on the lap and plays closer to the torso than does a dread, though it still has abundant bass response and projection with what I think is a superior midrange. I'm six-four, with lanky arms and fingers to match and until I finally got a hold of an SJ a couple of years ago, I had zero interest in anything but a dreadnought. I thought I'd pass this bit of insight along to you...not that you don't have the goods to wield a dread handily and play til the "cows come home"! Perhaps you can get the good folks at Gallagher to build one for you. I would love to see an SJ in their lineup! I'm a proud owner of a 2023 Gallagher BG-50 slope, which is simply killer and has led me to have a deep appreciation for the company. I like what they're doing, how they're doing it, and where they seem to be headed. Best, Eric in Central Texas

I own a M-36 but I’m pretty happy to be playing that beautiful dread from Gallagher

That’s great. I also have an M-36…big with session guitarists so I’m sure it’s not such a secret in Nashville. I must be honest and say that felt a little silly after sending such a lengthy comment to someone I don’t know or who might not appreciate unsolicited advice. I don’t spend much time on KZbin but I thought I’d checkout some Gallagher videos when I happened upon you and Eric playing some really great stuff. Wonderful guitars! Take care and good luck to you.

Whatever that guitar is that JP is playing is a monster of a guitar there’s definitely something special about and yes I know it was Merle’s but that guitar sounds like it’s alive. They should all sound like that 😁

This JP doesn’t have a clue on tone woods. No product knowledge on expensive guitars. He promotes and play mostly inexpensive guitars. He will BS anyone letting you think he has knowledge, but over many years of reading and watching him, all he can offer is a very nice guitar tune. He can play, but his hands don’t match his brain.

Stellar player. Stellar guitar. The punch coming out of this is like a Babe Ruth home run. I say this over and over…David and crew have taken an already iconic brand and really, REALLY, knocked it out of the park. Geez…I wish I could flat pick.

It sounds good yes it does but it does not sound exactly like doc Watson doc Watson did not flat pick a guitar he played with a thumb and finger you are a good flat picker yes indeed sir yes you are but it sounded nothing like doc Watson
@williamburroughs22734 ай бұрын
I think Gallagher mahogany dreads just have a bigger, better bass than any comparable guitar. Plus I love the mids on a Doc Watson, they're always focused AND fuzzy, just the sound I want from a mahogany dread.
