No mention of the 1961 MG Midget? They sold a lot of those. Also no mention that the Twin Cam MGA was a mechanical disaster and was quickly dropped.

BMC or ITG make official kits for this car (and you can MOD VW / Audi 3.2 kits to suit - they have the same capacity). The BMC features a carbon fibre air box with a cyclic compressor built into the filter and 75 mm pipe. Like the Viper this compresses the air to aid induction. Note: this is almost pointless if you go open cone under the bonnet because the engine bay is v.hot and you will just drag in heat. You need the CAF part as well - closed cone with a cold air feed pipe preferably to the front air dam under the bumper facing forward - this rams cold air through the filter at speed and you get a significant rush. remeber to put a water trap / U bend in there as the CAF point is low and you dont want water and crap getting in. Filter is oiled and has a metal mesh over it though so unlikely. Mine is a BMC / ITG hybrid (from an Audi) with a 60MM CAF. Ideally you need a Cat Back exhaust to help with air 'OUT' also. Note: if you reset the ECU (Google it) properly the engine will revert to an original dealer programme designed for a duplex exhaust (2 pipes) and the BMC - this was a Pro Drive optional upgrade. With this you get better breathing across the rev range and approx 190 BHP as opposed to the stock 179/180 - the pickup on the car is noticeably better - standard it feels asthmatic for a V6.

Spartanm333 Tried this yourself? curious to how you know such a thing exists within the ECU yet no-one on the forums or anywhere else seems to.

Yes. I made a hybrid from an ITG downpipe (MG V6 throttle body connections) to a nearly new Audi 3.2 BMC / filter (the important bit), then ran my own cold air feed pipe (air con aluminium pipe 80mm ) through the inner wing forward round the back of the fog light area to the front air dam grill under bumper where I terminated with a slow 90 bend so the opening faces forward - all blacked out with heat resistant paint so its virtually invisible. Note: if you completely take out the old air box restrictor there is acres of space for this. There is a process to reset the ECU to a state where it is ready to 'learn' its on the X Power forum (posted it myself) - you then go through a series of accelerations etc and it sets itself up for the (new) air & fuel capability. The original stock 180 had a dealer BMC option and there was a wider plan to have a supercharged 225BHP version so the ECU has enough range to cope with the mod and its designed to adjust itself due to fuel and temperature differences (the cars were sold in Spain and Australia where the air is denser and hotter - same engine and set up). Does it make a noticeable difference? A definite yes, one you can actually experience e.g. I now have to be more careful in the wet as it will spin the front wheels in 2nd and 3rd gear. Boot down early in an apex it starts to understeer. Standing start I can show most GTi's a clean pair of Goodyears and the V6 helps as the gears run longer than a 4 cyclinder so it will be doing 80 before you know it (on a lane!) - something hot like an STi will out do it though. I think this gain is partly because the original engine was de-tuned in the ZS so as not to embarrass the ZT (same engine) which was more expensive and runs 190 stock. You can see this in the extraordinarily choked pipe maze that sits before the original air box. So you have 10 BHP right off the bat taking this off. A big bore decat exhaust and the BMC (I have both now) will release another 6/7 at least so I am probably the around 195 BHP now although I haven't had it on a rolling road. Really though its the change in character that you gain across the whole power range. The extra air in and out gives this KV6 what it really needs which is room to breath - with this it is a sweet ride with a great engine / exhaust note as a bonus. Makes me smile every time I drive it. I went to a touring car meet back in the day and they were running a 2.0 ltr 4 cylinder in the Zed which surprised me but the restriction they said was the quad camshaft set up. MGR tried lots of different ones but couldn't come up with anything really hot / reliable hence no rallying or serious motor sport with this engine. So dont bother with cams - it's a very expensive waste of time on the KV6. Re-mapping can work but its only worth it AFTER you have done the air and exhaust, plus made sure your VIS valves are serviced and working effectively - these are a mechanism not unlike an added carburetor which opens under various throttle positions to let more air / fuel in - give the car a kick about 2700 revs and then again at 4500. If these get oiled up the car will still run fine but you lose the boost - its gradual so most people dont notice the loss but drive two cars side by side one clean and one dirty its like one with a turbo and one without. Check out XPower Forums for lots of history - they focus on the ZS. Have fun.

Half of the TCs did not go to the USA. About 2000 went there in the late 1940's* although many more have been brought over since. I would guess that more TCs went to Canada, Australia and South Africa than to the US. *2000 is 1/5th of TC production.

I suppose if you enjoy picking lint out of your navel and arguing about its derivation, composition and future application. Today, it's MG and who really gives a toot about M.G. as against MG? Ex-India, pipe-smoking colonels on the Isle of Wight, harumphing in their rose gardens before writing letters to the Times about the decline of Western civilization, bloody MG not M.G.

What about the RV8? This model was the catalyst that revived the brand in the nineties and arguably the most distinguished and outstanding of the modern MG's. The absence of this from the story lets the whole presentation down.

Quoting from the link referred: "As to the famed dots, my friend M.E.L. Gosling - a motorcyclist, having been informed the M.&G. were not shortened, queried the use of the dots; Mr. Kimber told us it was simply a matter of design - more visually attractive, and no other reason. It was confusing then, as now, however, and no-one would dare to take on the master." It's M.G., with the dots.

What misconception? To quote Kimber himself, in 1929: "Out of compliment to Sir William R.Morris, Bt., we named our production the MG Sports, the letters being the initials of his original business undertaking, 'The Morris Garages' from which has sprung the vast group of separate enterprises including the MG Car Company". Seems pretty clear-cut to me - or maybe it's not me with whom you're arguing?.

It's actually MG not M.G. This is one of the things that lead people to this very common misconception. Kimber started at Morris Garages, and named The MG Car Company an an homage to William Morris's company.

A cute and sometimes interesting/entertaining video, however if you are looking to this for an accurate "M.G. history lesson", you may want to look elsewhere. M.G. "stands for" M.G. , period not "Morris Gagarge". Morris Garage was another business. Some parts may also be confussing to some as to "what model" M.G. is actually being shown in the video. (i.e: "taking" about the TC , but video much of the time is actually of the TD that came later.)

@thechucknorrisraper Its the original Top Gear; your thinking of the Clarkson-Hammond-May Top Gear of the past 8 years. Top Gear has been running from the 60s but was canceled at around 2001 because of poor audience numbers. The show was re-commissioned in 2002 and thats the show we know today. Hope you get it now!
