How much were these reels when they came out?
@new2ufishing
@new2ufishing 2 күн бұрын
I did a quick Internet search, but couldn’t find any new old stock available, but I would guess that they would’ve been right around the $200 mark. That seems to be pretty standard for the Stratic line in the past 10 years.

Thanks for all the info. I have been tying my own rigs now for 2 years. I am getting my hooks, snaps, and swivels dirt cheap and great quality. I can't find a cheap source for floats. I have tried Temu, Ali express, ebay, Amazon, you name it. Any advice for a float source would be appreciated. Also, most advice i've received tells to use 20 or 30# line for the rigs, be it mono or fluoro. I just came back from Destin, the fishing was tough for pomps, I surmise my 20# rigs were too visible, any suggestions? Thanks again.

The maintenance is pretty much like any other conventional Penn. If you are local to Stuart, FL, I can do it for you. If not, check out the videos from 2nd Chance Tackle on KZbin. He has done this reel several times.

Well, that is a “loaded” comment as it would be tough to diagnose without seeing it live. You could try to make a little video clip of the current operation and send it to me through my contact information on KZbin. Maybe from a video clip I can give you some direction. I don’t do reel service by mail. You probably have to search out a shop locally. But I will tell you based on tearing it down, it’s quite complicated and, I would suspect nearly impossible to get any parts unless you have a donor. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Hi Max, unfortunately, I no longer have this reel in my possession as I sold it. What you can do is use the contact information in my KZbin profile and text me a photo of the spring that you cannot figure out and a couple of photos of the inside of the real where you think it might go. Then I can perhaps help you. Thanks for watching and commenting

Up dated ….. I finally disassemble this Coriolis today after watching your video on this reel a few days back. My disassembly and service went far beyond your brief overview. A few points on servicing. Go ahead and remove the spool side half . There is a bearing on the shaft. Which will be oil and should wipe off spool shaft going into pinion gear. When you remove the main gear , drag, etc. And the drive shaft is bare. It has a shinny plate with 3 screws that holds it to the frame. If you remove the screws the shaft will pull straight out. It has a brass bushing clean & oil. It sits in a cavity in the frame which has a small drain hole ? The anti reverse dawg can be put on slightly off and will engage with finger pressure. But I don’t belive it would hold under a load. Definitely take a picture or make a note orn how it is positioned on the frame. I had to use your video for the sequence of washers & nut under the reel handle. It seemed like I was missing a part. But I wasn’t , just a odd arrangement under the handle. Thanks again for taking time to make this video.

Sorry I missed your comment request for the extra info. I'm glad you tackled it successfully. It is always a trade-off on how much detail to show in a service video. If yours was dirty or had some older grease, it is always best to go deeper and remove / clean each part as you proceed, just as you did. I expect your comments may help the next guy! Thanks for watching and commenting!!

Since this reel is not manufactured anymore, it’s difficult to find spare parts as you probably know. The best way, if you haven’t found anything online on eBay, is to search locally in the your fishing stores, or at local sales and look for a similar model that Will have a handle that fits. Many handles are interchangeable across multiple models of the reels. Good luck.

hi i’m using a okuma convector 55L and i was wondering what pe rod and what lb rod to use for it TIA
@new2ufishing
@new2ufishing 3 ай бұрын
The type of ride really depends on what type of water you’re fishing and what style of fishing you’re doing and where you’re fishing. If you’re doing high-speed trolling, that’s one kind of rod. If you’re doing deep dropping that’s a different kind of rod or vertical jig. I am assuming saltwater, but is it ocean-based or Near shore. It can also depend how big your boat is. You may not want to have very long rods swinging around a small boat. Of course the final thing is what target fish are you going after. that will do more than anything to dictate what weight of Rod you need to haul in fish. if you’re going after swordfish or yellow tuna, that’s different than if you’re trying to pull snappers or small grouper off the reef. Thanks for watching and commenting.

@new2ufishing
@new2ufishing 3 ай бұрын
Finding the top half of a rod is not something that I think you’ll be very successful with. You might find the whole Rod, or you also might find another butt end, because upper half are usually what break. You can always try to contact a local bait shop or possibly tsunami but I don’t think that would be very successful. If you have both pieces of the broken upper half some rods can be effectively repaired. Thanks for watching and commenting.

@new2ufishing
@new2ufishing 4 ай бұрын
I no longer have this one available, but it’s a standard spinning reel, so just about any Shakespeare spinning reel video tutorial will work and get you close enough for the basics. Servicing the drag, servicing the main gear, and, servicing the anti-reverse. Check 2nd Chance Tackle channel probably has the most spinning reel service videos on KZbin, and if you watch three or four of them, that will get you very close.

We fish for them in the roughest waters and the Hawaii state record size is over 10lbs. For any reel, the "best line" depends on where you are fishing and what you are trying to catch. Deep dropping to the bottom for goliath grouper is going to be very different than high speed trolling for kingfish. I'd start with 40.lb mono and change your leader accordingly.
