I'm still not convinced that water tester is legit. There might be some basis for the "dissolved solids" measurement, but there's no way it could detect the really concerning biological hazards. I have a few concerns about the RO system as well. If you read up on strontium, it's not something I would personally want added to my drinking water. The diagrams of the layers of the filter are also a little concerning, as the RO layer should be the very last thing the water goes through. Putting other filter layers *after* the RO layer is counterproductive, as the RO membrane is by far the finest and any other layers would be wasted, and in the case of the carbon filter would actually add in new particulates that weren't there before. Every home RO system I have seen has a sediment filter and carbon filter *before* the RO membrane. Some do have a postfilter that adds calcium - NOT strontium - back as well as raising the alkalinity and pH back to ideal levels. You could easily use that Costco system with a booster pump, which are available specifically for applications where the existing water pressure is too low. There are also "permeate pumps" that increase the efficiency and reduce water waste. Both of those pumps are inexpensive, around $50 or less.

We get the "swarming termites", millions of them fly around after they've finished off our less than described lumber. Our neighbor's pools are covered in black with them. In Hawaii the firemen won't lean any of the walls because of them. Ogden Nash wrote a poem about termites: "Some primal termite knocked on wood, and tasted it, and found it good. And that is why your Cousin Mae fell through the parlor floor today." 😁😁😎😎👍👍💙💙

Spray the window screens on your RV with good bug spray weekly and that will cut down on flys (and other winged insects) hanging around trying to get in.
@JCTravelStories5 күн бұрын
So …. You are ok with breathing the bug spray sprayed on your incoming fresh air? I’ll have to think about that plan. Actually, we have very good fitting screens. They don't come in there. Mostly the screen door frame. Maybe I’ll spray some there. :)
@huntmachine45055 күн бұрын
@@JCTravelStories In a very short time after spraying we never really smelled anything. We used this bug spray trick mostly to thwart the "no-see-ums" that are prevalent in the Delaware seashore area where we used our RV. They are so small they can go right through regular sized screens making leaving your screens open at night while you sleep a no go. I believe it also repelled other insects like flys and mosquitos that like to hang around the screen door and fly in when you open it. Let's see if the trick cuts down on your fly count. We always used "deep woods" style bug spray with a good % of Deet.

I'll bet they cut the wood in the States by the metric system and sell it by the american measuring system. Who is going to measure every board in the States, just make it work is probably the motto. Mr. J C, as far as that goes, nothing works in the States anymore and nobody cares anymore. The good old days are gone. And yes, these pesky termites like the warm climate. We had some tunnels in our garage on the plaster boards and had to get them replaced. It was in the same area where the outside faucet is. We never used that faucet anymore and (knock on wood) no more termites. Well, it's just another project for you to keep you busy. Tell Ms. Lynn her short hair really looks good on her,

Mexico affordability - my house has 2 large rooms with large doors to the street. When I got my house 3 yrs ago I thought I'd make those rooms into a motorcycle workshop. Then I found out the Honda dealer with certified mechanics will change the oil, brake fluid and full service on my motorcycles and quad for $25. That ended the workshop idea.

And then the certified mechanic goes home to a happy family that parties until 5 am on the weekends. Makes you wonder what’s wrong in the USA where the labor rate needs to be $125 USD per hour for the mechanic to be middle class with a family living pay check to pay check.

I’m very familiar with these kind of projects in Mexico and termites always find their favourite wood. If I were to make a suggestion I think you should take the pine 4x4’s and 2x4’s back and trade them in for ether cedar or Guanacaste. Guanacaste is probably a little cheaper. It will save you having to rebuild your storage room again in a few years. You can treat pine with a product to penetrate the wood so the termites don’t eat it but after a number of years they will still eat up your cabinets. They won’t touch the cedar or Guanacaste. A lot of the older homes in Mexico have beams made with Guanacaste and are still solid after hundreds of years. Happy building 😊
@JCTravelStories5 күн бұрын
Thank you for the advice. I believe it is good advice …. However, I have a different plan. If you notice there is a lot of concrete outside in front of the workshop. I poured it several years ago with the thought that when it becomes too difficult for Lynn to do the stairs to our upstairs bedroom, I’ll expand the workshop area to make a master bedroom on the first floor. Those old cupboards lasted 18 years. We are 79. Do the math. How long do those workshop 4X4s need to last? :)

@@JCTravelStoriesyes I should have known you thought it out well. Treating the soil will probably solve the problem and you can always give them another dose in a few years. I love how you care well for your beautiful wife. What a great example you are. I’m returning to my home in Mazatlán in about 2 months to rebuild my kitchen. Yes the termites are chewing as we speak. I used pine plywood to build the cabinets 17 years ago. I treated the wood and it was good for 15 years but this time I’m planning to use cedar. I better drill some holes too as you did. I have serious doubts that device actually does what it says it does. Most of those measurements can only be done chemically or manually in a lab. Things like a mass spectrometer and microscope are the only ways to tell compounds apart or detect and measure bacteria. It is patently impossible to do those things with a device like that. I'm sorry to say it looks like a scam to me. The missing part of your "homework" was in figuring out how the thing actually works. Until I know exactly how the device takes those measurements, I'm extremely skeptical. I'm reminded of "firewall" software of 20-25 years ago that claimed to be detecting and preventing dozens of hack attempts every minute in order to convince you it was actually working. It was ABSOLUTELY a scam. Then there are the current crop of commercial VPNs that absolutely cannot do what they claim to do. VPNs were designed and only actually do their job when you are connecting a remote computer to a private LAN and never access the Internet at large. Once your connections leave the VPN and go out into the Internet, you are fair game as if you weren't using a VPN at all. The one and ONLY thing a VPN is good for aside from the aforementioned scenario of remote access to a private LAN is to give you a reasonable (but NOT 100%) chance against man-in-the-middle attacks on public Wi-Fi hotspots. Just so we're clear, your apparent IP address is NOT the only way to get your location, and the streaming services (and especially your ISP) can easily detect if you're using a VPN or other anonymizer technique and easily block you if they want/need to. But it's in the streaming service's best interest to not make customers angry over blocking them unless the locality requires it. Which is not common, but I can tell you from personal experience IS a real thing.
