So true. I’m 62, lol, and have been having a wonderful time learning how to quilt. I made my first two for gifts for my son & DIL’s first anniversary. Now I’m looking for baby quilt ideas…thinking of making the Roundabout one. I use men’s dress shirts that I get from the thrift stores as fabrics and I think the Roundabout just might work :), so I’m making my way through your how-to playlist. Thank you again.

God bless you, too. Thank you for all your videos. I’ve been sewing for decades, but just started quilting this year, and your videos have helped me so much. I appreciate how you take the time to explain how you actually quilt the quilts, which is the part of the process that I’ve been finding a bit daunting (so I’ve been sticking with just straight stitching so far). You’ve encouraged me to start using decorative stitches on my next quilts.

Years ago, 1970's, there was a quilter named Georgia Bone steel never used a hoop she called it lap quiltg. I believe Jimmy Beyer may do some form of lap quilting. They did just regular quilting but held the quilt in their hands like you are doing. I have made several quilts this eay, holding all three layers in my hand. I love the Sashimi quilting. I think manyeople have not done quilting before because of all the rules they think they have to follow. If your goal is to enter your quilt in a show yes you have to follow the rules! But if you are making a quilt for family or friends, it doesn't matter they will be glad you made it for them. Quilting is nothing more than sewing. You dew the pieces of fabric together to make blocks, blocks together to male the top, its only really quilting when you sew the top, batting and back yogether! I'm so glad you made this video, showing people different techniques to use needles and thread, maybe folks won't be so intimidated to try.

New sashiko thread is a skein that has been folded over. Unfold so you have a skein that looks like what you're use to seeing. Traditionally, after unfolding/opening, you clip through the entire loop(all threads) at one end of the skein. From here you can pull out one thread and have a thread that is the right length.

I just finished your playlist for this quilt. It's so beautiful. I'll be adding it to my queue with the same jelly roll fabric that you used. I have two rolls! I was wondering why the pattern didn't just make one long row for the sashing between the rows instead of making the small strips and then adding the cornerstones. What are your thoughts on that? Do you wish it was a long strip vs having to piece it all togther? Thank you so much for this series.

I love doing the sashing with short strips. Once I did it with this quilt, it’s my go-to now when possible. I think it’s putting the quilt together in sections that i like so well. Thanks for watching and good luck!!!
