Did anyone else get a slight chill, when Michael used the Phantom's given name? Also, I can totally relate to what he said about the overture. I've heard that piece so many times over the years, and every single time, the very first note is the musical equivalent of a punch to the center of my chest. I always immediately feel the need to take in a big gulp of air. (1/28/2023)

@HillaryWilson You're SOOO lucky! I've been wanting to meet him since I was fourteen, and I heard the original London cast recording for the very first time. When he began to sing in the mirror scene, his voice felt strangely familiar, like I'd heard it before but couldn't quite place it. And then, something clicked: "Once Upon A Forest" was one of my favorite movies in my early elementary school years, and I never forgot the sweet, gentle, pained voice of Uncle Cornelius, as he begged for his niece to survive being poisoned. I feel like I have a kindred spirit-ship with Michael, given the similarities in our childhoods, and I hope that we're able to talk about that, if/when we actually do meet. (1/28/2023)

I love listening to Michael speak, he's so humble and always credits everyone who worked on the production. I wish that I had had the chance to see him play the Phantom in person. I've seen him perform on television and you could feel how much the character meant to him even there, I can't imagine what it would have been like to see that live.

I live in the Southern US so I only knew the things I saw on National TV about Michael since I was a long way from either New York or LA. I eventually did see the show's national tour and finally saw it on Broadway twice, the last time just a month ago. As soon as I got home, I started looking for performances and news from the early days of the show which I hadn't had access to before. Thanks to you and everyone else who shares them. I've always had such respect for him and his talent and the more I see, the more it grows.

What a fabulous interview. I am quite possibly his biggest fan and love everything he has done. The passion in his voice when he talks about his career is so beautiful to hear. Any youngster starting out could learn so much just by listening to this genius. He is quite simply a legend and no-one will ever play the Phantom like he did. This will always remain his role forever. I don't know of any other singer's voice which makes me cry like Michael's does. He sings with such emotion. His Music of the Night touches my heart everytime and check out his version of O Holy Night. That final NOEL always makes me sob. Love our Mr Crawford. Thank you for sharing this interview. It was wonderful❤

Simon, thank you for this. Michael Crawford has been a major inspiration for me since I was ten and first saw him in HD (1980, when VCRs were new and the Wizard of Oz and Hello Dolly were my first films u could watch at home and Cornelius taught me to sing. Of course, I had a MAJOR crush on him, naturally, which led to a different experience also involving my own singing teacher, and after being an actress growing up as well. I'm writing a letter to send him and really, I need to get it into his hands because I have a need to tell him MY story. If you can help give me direction, I'd be forever grateful. I'm not some fan-girl "going crazy," but I totally missed my chance to see him perform and am grateful to those who managed to tape some footage, even though it could never compare to being in a theatre where he was performing. But, I need to write him and tell him what happened because I think no POTO Phan has a story quite like mine. I also have been plagued with MDD, Major Depressive Disorder, which they used to call "Clinical Depression," many of the symptoms being similar to ME, and hearing you and he, right here on ur podcast speaking abt the difficulties it can present a person and those around them, and then trying to live some kind of life, can be difficult, at best. But perhaps your podcast will help others realize that even though symptoms may have NO outward appearance, other than "being sad" never knowing it's so much more and causing the patient SO much pain. It was still very inspirational to hear abt the start of ur friendship thru the shared trauma, and I was sobbing by the end. I hope that you're both safe out there, wherever you are. Sincerely, Krystal PS: I do NOT want HIS address, for I'd never wish to invade his privacy, only a good mailing address, where I can know it will get into his hands.) (For Michael: 😍💘💘💋💋💋)

Dear god when he describes the final lair scene and the story of that little boy, I think I stopped breathing for the good part of 5 minutes. The fact that he still gets emotional talking about it...wow. I just can't.....
