I am very taken by the way you explain every move you make with your measurements to layout the face and each feature. Look forward to viewing more of your carvings.

Love this video series. I was looking for your template. the link on your blog is not available. I realize it was posted quite a long time ago so maybe it is no longer available.
Whenever I use a cutting tool other than a knife it tends to tear up the wood

Video is heel goed en leerzaam alleen is de demonstrant gevaarlijk bezig met het snijden zonder handbescherming, vooral zijn linker hand

That was fun to watch. I’m sure the last thing you want to hear about how I would have done what your doing right? Well you did it just like I would have done it. But I have been carving professionally for over 50 years. Can I make a small but very important observation? I think you’re carving a piece of basswood right? Or possibly Tupelo ( my preferred wood) You’re tools need to be sharpened. I can see by your carving strokes that you’re blades are dull as hell. Now, you may think they are sharp or maybe you sharpened them yourself. Either way, trust me they aren’t sharp. My tools can slice paper thin strokes. It is effortless completely. Your straight blade seems @60-70% sharp but you’re 1/2 round and V-Tail tools are not cutting well at all. Please, I’m not criticizing your talent or carving abilities ok, but having SCARY SHARP TOOLS is the trick to efficiently removing the wood to reveal the carving underneath. I have some excellent methods for getting a surgically sharp edge on any shaped blade. If you are at all interested in learning how to sharpen your tools like NO OTHER BLADE, let me know. If you think I am a know it all douche, I’m sorry. I honestly think your skills are top notch ( but you’re tools are not sharp enough) Thanks for sharing your carving journey with us all. PEACE✌🏻🇺🇸✌🏻🇺🇸✌🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Thank you very much for giving us a great, interesting, and functional method of carving eyes. I learned the Harold Enlow method when I was carving little characters 1" square by about 2.5" tall. This was okay back then, but I wanted a more realistic eye, which yours are. I still carve these little characters, but now my size is a bit smaller (2.5 centimeter X 10 centimeter tall), but close enough. Thanks again for your fantastic, patient and informative style of carving eyes! I appreciate it very much!

Thank you very much for your fantastic tutorials on carving an eye. I have been carving little people (2.5 centimeter square X 10 centimeter tall blanks), and these tips work well even with my very small faces, albeit it really helps to wear a magnifying headband. Of course the tools must be smaller, except for the detail knives. Great videos, Gary! Thank you so much for sharing your talent and skill with us! Much appreciated

How long did it take you before you mastered the art of carving? Your work is beautiful, I have tried lots of times but I always struggle with the right side of a carving, I still have not achieved a wood spirit but I keep at it I am getting slightly better, but as yet I have not managed to complete one I make mistakes and generally throw them away.....your work is beautiful

You Sir have earned my subscription. I have been carving and whittling since i was old enough to have a pocket knife. I briefly had a mentor, but it was short lived. I'm looking to getting into carving more now that i have lost interest in other hobbies. I'm glad i found your videos.
