Thanks. For UK 4mm RTR, all that is available is the SLW Class 25 with a choice of gauges (OO, EM or P4), everything else has to be converted. I have a few with drop in wheels and a long list that need converting using Gibson wheels and a lot of fettling!

@flawedfinescale8454 our gauge here is 5 ft 3.everything comes as standard 00 gauge .we have 2 manufacturers here irish railway models which are accurascale in the uk and murphy models. EM track is slowly becoming available through the EM Gauge Society but to all intents and purposes, you need to build it (as I did for this layout, using copper clad sleepers). Thanks for the sub, much appreciated

A most enjoyable and informative video Jason. I know only too well how difficult it is to operate and film at the same time..... more outtakes and swearing than you could imagine! Also good to catch up with you recently, and I look forward to the next installment.

Thanks Kier, was great catching up with you the other week. I ended up with nearly two hours of footage for this, mostly junk and swearing (and one bit where the cat annoyed me and got called some choice names). Definitely type two fun!

Lovely modelling Jason. I might have to steal that track plan for a future project. How did you make the cobbles? I'm actually a regular viewer of your other channel but stumbled across this a while ago after reading the sandside thread on RMweb. I was hoping for more uploads so this is a very welcome surprise. Look forward to whatever comes next!

Thanks mate. Track plan works pretty well in adding a bit more interest; cobbles are adhesive vinyl sheets produced by a Spanish company called Redutex. Very different content to the other channel but hopefully kind of recognisable with the silly stuff 😀

Thanks Andy, and will hopefully not leave it as long until the next one. It’s kind of tricky knowing what to waffle on about, especially as everything I do takes so long. Wagon weathering maybe?
@andypeters6336

@@flawedfinescale8454 Weathering one would be good. I found when I got feedback from You Tube that the average watch time was around 10 minutes, so my last few were a lot shorter. but then you can do more short ones which is better and also builds up a better following. All the best, Andy P.

@andypeters6336 duration is a weird one; on my other channel, I try to keep the videos to about 12 minutes but the most viewed ones are much longer. The other element acting on viewing duration is people who start watching but click away shortly after 30 seconds (minimum time to register as a view, which is why trying to grab people’s attention at the start is so important)

Thanks, really appreciate the kind comment. On the face of it, there’s not a huge variety of wagons needed for the proposed layout (opens, mineral wagons, hopper wagons and ballast hoppers) but that won’t curtail me. I have various obscure wagons in my kit box (I stockpile them) and they will get built, including a Cambrian Loriot, despite two manufacturers now having released them. The stock for The Mill includes an ex L&Y 12’ wheelbase van, built from an ancient but lovely kit. Only a handful made it into nationalisation but it’s too nice to not use 😃

Thanks. There is a fair bit of effort involved and cost, and I guess many would wonder why I bothered but I really do enjoy tinkering, plus for a type of wagon that was so common, they’ve been all but ignored by manufacturers and variety is, as they say, the spice of life. The fact that hardly anyone will notice when a train of 20+ of them trundles by hasn’t escaped me 😂

Thanks, really appreciate your kind comments. It does take forever but I do like the flexibility it offers over embossed sheets (even if there were suitable ones available) as you can plan in the quoins, lintels, sills, etc., rather than have to compromise. You wouldn’t believe how sore my fingers were though; got a callus on the side of one of them now 😃👍

Thanks, really kind of you to say. I feel a big part of it is having a vision of what you want to achieve and striving to get there; there’s been many a failure along the way but I just start again; I also ask other modellers for advice. The retaining wall on the layout is an example; I saw Karl Crowther’s Hebble Mill in its early stages and his retaining walls built from the Wills sheets. What amazed me was that I couldn’t see where the sheets were joined together so asked how he had done it. I went home and experimented, and then once I was happy, used the methods on the layout, and hopefully it’s very difficult to spot the joins (a lot of MEK, filing, plastic putty, scribing and sanding is the key - takes ages but worth it 😀). Funnily enough, upon editing this I watched the clip where the two wagons are pictured and I prattle on about them being accurate. I noticed that the door spring on one of them is wrong (it’s centered; there should be two that line up with the bang plates at the outside of the doors). And yes, it’s winding me up so will be corrected 😀

Thanks Ade. It really has taken one hell of a lot of hours to scribe the stonework but I am really happy with the results.
