Tohatsu recommends checking gear oil level, can't find it in the manual, is there a way to check it?
@haulinvols4 ай бұрын
With the two screws in (drain and vent screws) there really isn’t a way to quickly check the level other than pulling out the vent screw and seeing if a little fluid spills out and quickly reinsert the screw. I change my fluid every season, it’s cheap insurance to make sure I don’t have any condensation or any other issues that will show in the fluid.

Thank you. My 2006 Tundra has the same problem, but the part is listed as unavailable on Amazon & at the dealer. Any ideas of how I can get this part?
@haulinvols6 ай бұрын
You may want to try searching the part number in a Google search. When I did that, it showed up at a few online Toyota dealer sites as in stock. It’s concerning if this part has been discontinued since it is a known failure point. I may put some tape around the wire in mine now to protect it for the long term so it doesn’t come apart again.

I have an 06 with the 5 speed, double cab. The heaviest I tow often, is 4500 lbs tandem axle 19 ft Fleetwood TT. I will tell you it is infinitely better than the 4 speed. In your video I can hear your tranny hunting for the right gear which tends to generate heat. Hopefully you're in OD off. A wdh with sumo springs is awesome. I have a husky centerline. I had a chain style and moving to bars made a 100% improvement even in cross winds. I run the mid weight sumos (black) with an add a leaf in my rear suspension. I have 5100 Bilstein coilovers in the front. The 06 is 282 HP and 315 torque and I would say it's absolutely noticeable against a new Taco (my BIL has one). If I put the 4500 TT on his hitch, it would bog it to hell. 1421 is my payload cap, and factory specs say 6500 lb max tow for mine (I would never max mine). I think it's a fantastic tow rig for small TTs and I wouldn't go above 4500 lb. Last thing I would suggest is a derale fan enabled tranny cooler (I run torque pro at around 159°-200° while towing) and the cooler is great. I'm in the west also and have run up and down 70, swell area (UT), and all up and down the Wasatch range in UT. Good video and sound advice. 👍
@haulinvols9 ай бұрын
Thanks my friend. Yeah, I tow with OD off. I know during that video I was going though an area with a bunch of up and down little hills which is probably one the reasons you hear the tranny going up and down the gears. That said, it still has a tendency to hunt at times. I really want to try a set of the sumo springs or similar and would like to get a set sometime this spring. Overall, for the towing I do, I love this truck and will have it a long time. At some point we will outgrow it as a family of 5 but until then, it will do the trick.

Great Video! Can't wait to get out and do this trail. Do you have suggestions for where to stay the night before starting the trail and where to gas up before hitting the trail?
@haulinvols2 жыл бұрын
It all really depends on where you are coming from and if you are starting it from the west or east. I started from the east near the GA/SC border. I was coming from the north and topped my tank off in Cashiers North Carolina (bout 15 miles away from the start). Highlands North Carolina isn't that far either coming from the north and there were a few hotels around that area. Living in Knoxville, I just left super early in the morning and drove down to start my trip.

@teamnoexcuses8644 Yeah, we did. The trails were a breeze. One night was nice an foggy, but that brought rain the next day. IIRC the only time we took it out of 4wd was to get up a hill to a campsite. Have fun if you make it up there. We flew through it, wish we had slowed down a bit.

They do makes slats for this rack, that said if you are looking for more or a platform type system, I would look hard at the Rhino Rack option for the JK. It has similar weight handling specifications and a platform option that would mount closer to the roof.

I probably wouldn’t recommend this boat for that. It’s great for a couple adults or maybe an adult with one or two smaller kids but that’s about it. The hull only weighs 300 pounds. You may want to take a look at something like a Hog Island Skiff.

Great video, thank you. Did you air down when off pavement? If so, did you air back up each time you hit pavement again?
@haulinvols2 жыл бұрын
Once I hit gravel for the first time, I did lower my pressure down to the lower to mid 20s just to help with the ride and allow the tires to conform to the rocks and ruts on the rougher portions of the road. I aired down a little more when I hit Charlie’s Creek. I put a few more pounds back in the tires after that section. I did add a bit more when I hit a stretch where I was on pavement for a while. Even then I didn’t air all the way back up to normal pressures until I headed home on the highway.

The O/D in my 2001 tundra is starting to turn on and off by itself when I shift into reverse or D . But when it does that I just push the O/D button and turns back on. Is this a sign of this part going bad????

Most likely. That was how mine started then it went out entirely. Initially it was intermittent and I’m guessing that is when the wire was starting to fail. Then it stopped altogether. When I went to replace mine, it had broken completely I half.

As with anything like this it's hit or miss. Driving down the rural roads, I would have some service, further in the back country on the forest service roads, there would be little to no service. That's why it is important to make sure your vehicle is serviced well and is in good working order. I also have a CB radio for backup communication.

Helen was platted in 1912, and named after the daughter of a lumber official. The town was incorporated in 1913. Formerly a logging town that was in decline, the city resurrected itself by becoming a replica of a Bavarian alpine town, in the Appalachians instead of the Alps.
