Thank you for this wonderful video and new repair technique. I have an inground pool and the pool light went bad. I tried to replace the bulb, but the genius that installed it didn't leave enough power cable to get the pool light assembly out of the pool. Thinking there may be some extra wire, I tried pulling wire from the conduit. I was able to get some extra wire, but I'm afraid that by pulling the wire through, I may have created a leak so I will be checking it out with dye tomorrow and repairing the leak if it is required. I do have a question about a potential leak. If water has been leaking into the conduit and you make a successful repair, what happens to the water that has already leaked out into the conduit?
@poolleakdetectionllc2 ай бұрын
Hi Joel, I apologize for the late response. The water will evetually drain into the leak. Were you able to determine if there is a leak on the conduit? Remember safety first!

@poolleakdetectionllc3 ай бұрын

@charleskoerkel43123 ай бұрын
yup. brittle liners don't rip they split i fix a lot of these, I don't attempt these repairs on washed out brittle liners for above ground pools, the liner material is not pliable when its brittle so it won't stretch to lay down in the gully that the pool water washed away the sand from leaking, they blow out and rip bad.
@poolleakdetectionllc3 ай бұрын
I understand. The repair wasn't too difficult; it just required some time. The liner for that commercial pool was relatively smooth, aside from the rips caused by some kids. If the tears are at the bottom of the pool, there's no need to worry about repairs, as the ground will support the patches under the water pressure. However, if the tears are in the corners or walls of the pool, that's a different matter. Do you frequently encounter large tears? Please let me know if I can assist further.

@@poolleakdetectionllcwe are the opposite here, mostly gunite and fibreglass in Melbourne Australia. Majority of leaks are pipework leaks closely followed by penetration leaks from pipes and light conduit leaks. What’s your process for vinyl? Do you find using electronics first and then diving to be the best method or just diving? We find that when diving only there may be a chance to miss a pinhole leak. But also some that the leaktrac of velo misses we can find diving so a combo is good.

I have a spa with about 6 jets returns. The pool was emptied because water was green and was not able to perform a dye test so I performed pressure test on all the plumbing. I got to the spa and the pressure was not holding like the rest of the pool plumbing. I added water and air and was able to hear sound from one of the returns without the sound equipment. I tried with sound but I can not pin point which return because you can hear the sound all over spa area. Would a dye test locate exactly which return? I have an idea which one but I'm not 100% present sure. Thank you
@poolleakdetectionllc4 ай бұрын
The dye test may help you determine in which jet the dye moves faster by performing static presure. Plug the lines using the close cones execpt one that will be an open cone. Place the open cone to each return and dye test (keep rest returns close) The stronger suction of the dye will show you that the leak is close to that jet but will not reveal the exact location. If you have a hydrophone place it to each return jet and you might be able to listen the leak if it close to the outlet. Lastly use a mirror and dye test the outlet (without cones) and dye test, if the leak is in on the first coupling or threads of the outlet you might be able to see the exact location of the leak. If you have more questions let me know. I hope this helps.

The water loss depending of the number of the holes. If there is only one tiny hole you will propably notice the drop in a period of 3-4 days. Larger the pool longer time to observe the drop. Although useally there are more than one tiny holes in the liner especially on above ground pools. Do you perform leak detections or you suspect a leak in your pool?

Hey there I have a leak in a spa that I'm having trouble finding. There was one leak we found under the spa drain cover and we patched it up and it continued to leak so there has to be a different leak, right? We pressure tested the jets and suction in the spa and they held pressure well it did not drop. The only thing left would be the light and the surface. The main drains are plugged to eliminate them from any questioning. The water still drops below the bench. What would you recommend? Thank you
@poolleakdetectionllc6 ай бұрын
Hi there, let me ask you a few questions before I give you any answers. Is it a concrete/gunite spa? Also is the spa connected with a pool? Are you losing water when the equipment is OFF? If yes, how many inches per 24hrs?
@herbertperez40826 ай бұрын
@poolleakdetectionllc hey there thanks for getting back to me. It is a gunite pool and is attached to a pool. The spa is not same level as pool it's a little rised. It is losing water both on or off. The pool is a little distance away for me to drive so I have been going 1x per week. When I filled on Monday of last week by the time I went back Saturday the spa had dropped about 2ft of water down to the bench. So about 4inches of water per day if I'm doing the math correctly.
@poolleakdetectionllc6 ай бұрын
@@herbertperez4082 It is more likely the leak to be in the body of the spa or pool. I would suggest to reach to a profecional leak detection diver to check with a sound device and dye test all the components of the spa & pool. Which state are you in if I may asking?
@herbertperez40826 ай бұрын
I'm in California. That's is what I assumed that it may be on the body. The pool does not lose any water at all so we know for sure the problem is in the spa and we also plugged up the jets and main drains in spa.
@poolleakdetectionllc6 ай бұрын
@@herbertperez4082 You can check the light conduits and dye test all the connections between the components of the spa and the concrete/gunite. Also any visible crack. You can also reach to Leaktronics if having hard time to find the source of the leak. I hope this is helpful.

I know I have a leak at the skimmer box because when I add water to the normal level, in 24 hours it will leak out approx. 1 1/4" of water depth to the base of the skimmer. Once at the skimmer base, it will lose another inch of water over the next 7 days, which I attribute to normal evaporation. A visual check of the skimmer shows no visible cracks, but I am no expert. I plan to have it tested next week. Thank you for the informative video!
