Numerous high-level career numismatists have called this coin the most exciting, sexy and/or beautiful coin they’ve ever seen in their career. These are guys who’ve personally handled the best of the best, all of the record breaking coins; to me, that’s an incredible endorsement.

Beautiful piece, for my taste it is over graduated, it brings several defects, at 11:00 on the side of the shield it brings a blow and on the bust it brings a line from the side of the hundred and crosses the ear, maximum one MS-64

What are the white deposits on the Stewart medal and can such be removed? Look at the eye and nostril at 3:02 and also at the top of the leftmost mast on the rightmost ship at 3:54. (also on the left part of the legend at UNA V. I have seen this on some other 19th century silver medals of mine and am wondering if conservation could remove this. Thanks!
@benorooji12482 жыл бұрын
The short answer is that silver is a highly reactive metal and after 200 years, some toning is bound to develop and this toning can take on many forms depending on the environmental conditions and exact composition of the piece. Though more often seen on modern pieces, you might also be aware of "milk spots" which is just cloudy white toning that is thought to be the result of solvents left on the dies that are inadvertently struck into the coins. While the things used in the 19th century are obviously different than those used today, the principle remains the same. As for conservation, the major certification companies offer such services and this is a question I would think best suited for them.

Excellent video and descriptions on these unique rarities Ben well done ! Ngc always makes these holders way bigger then they need to and I definitely prefer Pcgs on these type items. That being said they are still very cool I’ve found this area of early Us medals very difficult to research and come up with a rough idea of what they are valued at I just won a 1833 Benjamin Franklin and Matyon medal in Pcgs Sp63 Bn for $110 and I have no idea what it’s worth. I suppose I just wing it in this area haha
