my favorite scene is in episode "flight of fear" where kaiba meets allister on his corporate aircraft, so he presses a button to make all the rooms furniture to go down into the floor, while stating hes always prepared for a duel lmao. We're not going to duel on some table and chairs, like some animal!!!

Yo, i remember those duel disk toys and thinking how cool it would be to play yugioh with my friends with these. Little did i know those plastic edges that would hold your cards in place would absolutely ruin the cards and scrape and peel them.

Always a good thing to remember one's roots when it comes to decks. I initially got starter and structure decks, but the first deck I built was a few Blackwings, combined with Machine monsters. Obviously, not good, especially back in 2008 and entering duels in 2013. Some Ancient Gears, the odd Morphtronic as well as X-Saber, and even some older cards like Penguin Soldier. Thankfully, it was only used against friends. I did refine it on Dueling Network of all places, so that it trimmed down a lot of the inconsistent pieces and mainly focusing on the Blackwing cards. It included Relinquished, Manju, Future Visions and Earthbound Immortal Asclla Piscu, just because I thought they were neat additions. But, as for archetypes, the first one I ended up using physically was D/D.

The duel disks are not even show accurate. I never liked them as a kid simply because they spell/trap slots are in the front of the disk, not in the back like in the show

They would work like the Gladiator Beasts, switching from human warrior monsters to beast warriors from the hand or deck or during stanby phases if they had their own Moon field spell card.

Always found it funny the first time they showed off the duel disk its shown shooting out these two attachments that become the hologram projectors. And then it never showed them again.

Honestly, the most impractical thing I can see about the "real" Duel Disks, is the fact that either you have to constantly take your opponent's word for what they're playing (if standing in "show-accurate position"), or... stand right up face to face to be able to see each other's fields, in which case, playing on a table is infinitely simpler. *_But damn does it look cool either way._*

You can't put "includes exclusive card" on a YGO product and not expect people to buy it thinking they'll include a standard copy of the monster, or the tokens featuring Yugi and Kaiba

Huh. Didn't know about these card beyond Leviair. It is also a little sad knowing that from all my time looking into competitive play, Traps don't really seem to have a place. It could be interesting if Shark busted out these cards in the anime considering his cards, the rank 3 fish engine, were already played with them. Then again, Shark has a bit of "ranking up" arc of his boss monsters as time went on. I guess I wouldn't blame people for think Aero Shark was a card for these guys because "Aero" Shark but the attribute does give it away.

Yep and then there’s the effect of Aero Shark. But it’s actually funny because Shark used that one in the anime and it even had a different effect, since his deck wasn’t based on banishing 😂

Fish Rain was always such a weird one to me. They did realize Double Summon already existed, right? If they added some sort of Snake Rain effect to it, banishing 4 Fish/Sea Serpent/Aqua from your deck (still with the summon to compensate for being a Trap with a condition instead of a Spell without condition and for sending cards to a zone that's far more difficult to exploit, and it would be a reference to the discard as well by still making you use a card from your hand), it would've made so much more sense and really tied the archetype together.

Yeah, I could’ve seen Fish Rain being something to special summon from the deck, but maybe they thought that was a bit much. I guess it’s supposed to combo with Egg Clutch 🤷♂️

My opinion is make frog be the jam again! The poor guy. First they print him as a lackluster monster, then they excluse him from a new archetype and on top they steal his cool name. That's criminal... Also Drinking game: Take a shot everytime he says "Frog", in case he says "Frog the Jam" take 2! :D

Them being WIND didn't help, either. Since they're scattered across all three of the ocean-related Types, they would normally be united by WATER support. But the real problem is that both they and their support just aren't good enough. Fish and Kicks and Fish and Swaps are just worse versions of Psychokinesis and Psychic Path, and those weren't exactly competitive to begin with.

Oh yep. Which I why I wish they would’ve gotten even more support. Fish and Swaps is kind of meant to be their replacement for Salvage, since that only works on Water Attribute, but honestly a card to get them back from the GY too wouldn’t have been a bad idea, since detaching them as material sends them there instead of the Banishment. 🤔

I think technically some Konami blog referred to some of them as Generation Fish, but the general Banish Fish also stuck. I think not being an actual archetype and not having a definitive popular name hurt them in the end, since people couldn’t really properly group them together and then in the future, it gave Konami to excuse to not continue supporting them with more cards.

I still think Konami choosing to name the term for your banished cards The Banishment is goofy as heck. I mean yeah, making a pseudo keyword for something that existed for so long makes sense, but it doesn’t change that it sounds and feels goofy.

@@SgtZook Nothing was wrong with it, but technically, it was never called the banished "zone". Before Konami decided to arbitrarily name it The Banishment, all card text referred to such cards just as "banished cards". It never had an official name, banished was just state the cards would reach. Y'know. -Target one card your opponent controls, banish it. -Return all banished cards to the graveyard. -Banish your entire hand face down. -etc. "Banishing" was an act performed, "Banished" was a state of existence. We never had it officially named as a zone. ANd because it wasn't named as a zone, some Einstein at Konami decided to give it a goofy-ass name instead. Now it is officially your banishment, your opponent's banishment, sent to the banishment, return from banishment. :(

Does sound weird, but I greatly prefer it to “removed from play.” Maybe Pokémon starting off calling their equivalent “The Lost Zone” worked better for them in the long run.

I built a Banish Fish deck, and I will say it was really fun and did get me some match wins in tournaments. I wish they were better.

Generation Fish walked (or rather crash landed) so that Ghoti could combine their playstyle with White Aura's and become fairly popular. And I'll always remember them for this, with Ghoti being one of my favourite archetypes.

2:01 oh no, not the underworld egg clutch... Joke aside, Génération fish was one of archétypes I discovered when searching for cards idea in the database. And they are... so weird mechanically.... i like their design but the gameplay is lacking to say the least. Funny enough, some weeks after Konami announced the Ghoti, that makes me think they were the Génération fish but playable. And now Ghoti is one of my favorite archétypes of all time. The artworks and the gameplay are so cool and so well thought, it very impressive, if we forgot the fact that they are lacking an in archétype starter, it is so unbelievable in todays Yu-Gi-Oh
