I like the way you built from the bottom up and used water and rocks to weight and partially shape the liner as the pond got shallower. The final result looks very natural and should attract a variety of wild critters.
@randall6002Ай бұрын
Thank you . It certainly does attract the wildlife, esp in hot spells ,, it's been well worthwhile.

Looks good! I'm puzzled though. Is that felt over top of the black plastic? If so, I thought it was supposed to be felt on the ground to protect plastic from punctures from ground. Seems that the fabric will deteriorate in the water.

How large is the pond and how deep?

First....I tapped the thumbs up 👍 button to feed the algorithm monsters. One question: What do you do to control 2,000 or more baby frogs? Do snakes come eat them? Birds eat them? Some die from lack of food? I want to make a 60' × 30' pond..... I could have a 100,000..... YIKES ! Thanks
@randall60025 ай бұрын
Thank you very much . The reason why you get so many tadpoles is because they have so many predators waiting to devour them. Birds , newts and dragon fly larvae to name just a few..Its all part of nature's way to balance out things.. 👍

Wildlife ponds are pretty low maintenance. If everyone had one, we could really help the declining wildlife.

Thanks so much ! One thing that's important and is my favourite part of my pond is the log stack. It's now covered in moss and ferns and it looks very natural now after a few years , I love it more than the newts and frogs that hide away in it during the year. If you can try and visit some woods or forest and find some old dead wood to add around your pond . Thanks again. 👍

I started a pond today on my allotment by digging the basic shape 60cm deep....a lot easier than I thought it would be. That was plan A, justcwatched your video and there is a plan B now. You have inspired me to make the pond and surrounding area larger. Some great ideas for encourahing wildlife. What size was your black pond liner and was the one on the top for cosmetic reasons? I am UK based so any recommendations for the liners would be appreciated. Job well done
@randall600211 ай бұрын
Hi Julie. The pond liner I used was from a company called oase, I was lucky and got one that was half price and it was far to big for the small pond I built so I had plenty left over..The top liner (fleece) was used to protect the main liner from the stones and rocks and cosmetic also. The top liner isn't totally necessary you could use off cuts from the main liner for added protection..Good luck with the project and I'm glad my video helped you out with you're plans. 👍
@juliegardner684311 ай бұрын
It's me again. Lined the pond at the weekend and looking at the edging now. My question is how did you incorporate the plants surrounding the pond? Did you place them just outside the liner or sort of made a U shaped dwelling within the liner for them? I haven't cut the liner yet. Will send you a picture when complete. Many thanks once again.
@randall600211 ай бұрын
Hi Julie. Good to hear you started the pond .. I only made a few dwellings incorporated with the main liner , the other plants I dug near the liner edge and placed some off cuts of liner to create a bowl near their roots to make sure they don't dry out.. Hope that helps 👍
