Hi mate , if you buy the genuine hsp items , with the addition of a few shims you should eliminate the slop , I race this car and it has to be a good fit , unfortunately if you buy the knock off one from China you will have fitment issues .

Thanks for the video, like others I've had difficulty finding info on the D5 clone. I have the MR which I'm happy with but I wanted the rear mount too, but couldn't find an original D5 within my budget. My clone should arrive in a couple of days but after watching your video I think I'll order a second one just because at $A160 why not? Cheers, Dave from Western Australia. 👍

One last question... Is there a ratio on the belt drive ? Or is it 1:1 ?
@kelvinmrrc32895 ай бұрын
My guy hope this helps a.aliexpress.com/_mtRvDeY Keep your spur gears plastic nylon material just like proper 1/10 touring cars Go and buy pinion gears 48pitch from 9-15 tooth , and just test to see what best works for your motor as every motor is different , you’ll know if you are running efficiently by being able to place your fingers on the motor after your runs , if you can’t keep your finger on the motor for more than 5 seconds , then the motor is running too hot and is over geared. Don’t worry too much about the drive ratios as what matters is what your motor is doing. Have plenty of spur gears and pinions so you can find the sweet spot , if you have a motor dyno then you can fine tune timing to what’s best at 7amps.

Thanks for the reply, I'll get a set of varying tooth pinions and spurs and see what works best for my setup. Cheers

Now that you have enough metal in it to keep it from breaking, it's very heavy and will start bending and snapping axles. Especially if you put a real motor in it. If you try Redcat hardened axles, it'll just shear the pins. These trucks are 8 year old tech and are junk. There's nothing you're going to do to make it any better except get something a lot newer and lighter like a Hosim X07. And this is not a sales pitch for the Hosim, just an honest comparison. I own both. The HSP/ Redcat Volcano is also 2s only, even on the brushless car. If you run 3s the cars will self destruct before your very eyes. Sorry, but that's the way it is. The Hosim, at 199, is 100 dollars cheaper than the Redcat brushless Volcano after you account for the batteries. Redcat comes with none and wants 62 dollars for it, plus a charger. The Hosim comes with 2 half size batteries and a charger, included. It also comes with a Deans parallel adapter so you can join them together and double the capacity.. The Hosim also has oil filled shocks and metal everywhere it's needed. Metal uni-axles both front and rear, metal steering gear, metal A arm pin retainers, metal skid plate, metal diffs, metal pinion and spur gears, metal steering knuckles on the front axle, and metal C cups on the back axle. All the metal you need, and no metal you don't need. The Redcat only comes with metal diffs and uni-axles. The Hosim is a much better thought out truck than either Redcat or HSP and they've had 8 years to think about it.

Hey there! Just found this vid after lots of sifting thru international content. Finally an Aussie perspective on this "clone" D5! I'm the same as you (except I don't own a sweet 1/1 scale drift car 👍😋) having bought this roller as a cheaper alternative to enter the drift game. Got it recently but still getting it together. Spent two days shimming & thread-locking the whole car to help eliminate slop, and had wondered if the genuine 3Racing bulkheads were worth doing due to dubious plastic thread security, so thanks for answering that one 👊 And the poor quality spur gear teeth 🤔 I'm glad it's not just mine then! Thanks for your efforts to get some more information out on this machine. Plans for updates, running vids or longer term tests?? Cheers!

Hey Jase, sorry for the late reply , glad I could help , unless your really focused on competing, then I’d probably hold of on the bulkhead upgrades as they are quite excy, the car will run fine with the plastics , but I can never run anything without all the bling . I’m just trying to find time in getting my shell done as I’m very time poor , hopefully I can get a running vid with the Z body in place . Best of luck with your D5 journey.

So how does it drive? In comparison to original plastic D5? And what about differential, which is not present?

There is just more adjustability with the upgrade parts , a lot more refined than the plastic model & the locked diff is what is needed to drift . So it’s perfectly fine with the kit locked diff.

@@kelvinloquias5272 Thank you for the reply, no worries. I was able to order machine threaded screws so its fine now. My only problem now is the kit is incredibly wobbly, I managed to mitigate some of the wobble by strategically placing shims/washers. Still wobbly though haha
@kelvinmrrc32892 жыл бұрын
@@jhaybz29 yes it’s a hit and miss with the parts you use , hsp is not the best when it comes to parts fit , but you can make them work by adding shims here and there , and if you end up using the aluminium tie rods you can minimise play or slop by using the rubber O rings that you will find mainly in the suspension , use them front and rear of the ball joint for extra security and less play .

I went with all alloy only to find crashing causes the alloy to bend where as the plastic has flexes so i went all plastic again and it increases the run time 👍🏽
@takjr0 Жыл бұрын
Based on your experience, what parts do you think it is worth to keep as plastic and what as alloy? I was going to buy the same HSP as in this video (94111 I think), but it came to my mind that off-roads RCs can jump and crash a lot when jumping and all, and this could bend the alloy.
@sumonmiah1902 Жыл бұрын

@kelvinmrrc32892 жыл бұрын
Hey mate , I had to make them , quite simple really , just get any flat piece of flat 2mm black plastic , cut to size and match the holes that’s already on the diff casings , and just dig out a little channel on the plastic mount so that the sway bar can freely move , the tension on the 4 mounting screws will assist with how much friction you want to apply to the sway bar… hope this helps
