Those are sand trout - no size & no limit in Florida. They are good to eat, very soft like speckled trout or whiting. Best fried in my opinion within a couple days of catching and not a fish to freeze, it gets very mushy.

We’ve been told by other shellers that tossing live shells into the water from a distance causes the muscle to detach from the shell, especially when they hit the ground first. 🙏

How are they going to hit the ground first if you throw them back into the water? Even if that were true, when they’re washed up that high out of the water, they are gonna dry out and die. I’ve seen it a thousand times. Throwing them back into the water at least gives them a chance at survival. Unless you want it to die so you can collect it later.

You need to learn the names of the shells so you know if you find something great :) Like all those alphabet cones were really good finds. Glad to see someone else appreciates the beauty of the lowly penn shells and their iridescence.

I remember going to the beach with a hurricane. It was fun playing with the waves. Smart you are in a group for if something goes wrong. We went to Clearwater Fl . We have rode beside a tornado. We loved it. People thought we were crazy and probably was but we had alot of fun. We had the beach to ourselves.
