A good question, however the video was created almost 8 years ago. My guess is probably the drug would like to weaken or lose its activity. For a definite answer, please refer to Patrick's Medicinal Chemistry book where it details out all the minor modifications.

@@acethatpresowithdraisyah thanks I was told it's made from the Ethylene Bridge (2-carbon chain) . Ring C and B. Ethyl-morphine; unless regular morphine also has it as well. But I don't think basic Morphine Molecule has any Ethyl-Function; just 2 Hydroxyl groups being Hexane rings; Ring C being Hexanol . The argument was Methadone is really semi-synthetic vs not fully, which would be true BUT Only if Ethyl morphine is the only derivative that has an Ethylene Bridge. 🤷 I do Thank You for your reply. I also have read that Methadone metabolizes back into 2-ethyl and Ethylidene which are synonymous.
