the correct thing to do is put an OMC hub in the prop not shave down the shaft. Having an 18 foot Viking (1979) that had an Evinrude 235 I took off and put a 200 Black Max on I can tell you Ive had experience with both. The Mercury had .150 cut on the heads and the squish band cut @ 11 degrees, TDR and Boyesen 2 stage reeds, Diamond Marine 15 inch mid section, and 30 Cleaver prop. At 6400 it ran 94 mph on a GPS. I could have raise and widened the exhaust ports and got it over 100 mph but why bother, at 94 it was scary fast and there wasnt anything that could beat it until a Cigarette ran off and left me.

I honestly haven't had any issues with my black max outboards the ignition chit out on me once❤usual impellers poppet valves nothing major 😊maintenance might be the key but no machinery is bulletproof they all break ,i like the old outboards only because a can afford about 5k for a engine i cant afford 20😊 grand for a new 300 lol maybe when there 30 years old😊walk that pad like a madman

Firstly l live in Australia and it is High Lux and l own a 1997 Toyota Hilux but it would not look good lowered because l have the drop side aluminium tray my Hilux is exactly the same underneath except the rear springs are much beefier for carrying heavier loads but with the hard bodied tray lowering they look good and of course l have to mention the 22R engine such a brilliant engine one of the best engines ever

My dad used to have a CVX16... Lately I've been getting the urge to track that boat down, restore it, and put a fully-built merc racing 2.5 2 stroke v6 on there to push about 350hp... People keep saying it's sketchy at speed though, but like... What would be a safer hull to go with for trying 100+ with a single outboard? Looking for a 5-6 seat "cruiser" (meaning I don't care about fishing and would only do watersports if it was convenient) with classic speedboat/runabout looks like the CVX or one of those ole wooden speedboats. But, y'know... Stable at 100+ OH, also a bit of a bonus if it's decent in rough water, too. I plan for mixed ocean and lake usage. Hence the outboard.
@adrenalinok9224
@adrenalinok9224 11 ай бұрын
I mean that cvx is definitely sketchy at just 50mph. That being said, you could put a hydraulic 6 to 8 inch set back box and some good/long trim tabs to stabilize the thing and it could reach some good speeds. Transoms on those things require some re-enforcing to handle big power!
@Drunken_Hamster

@@adrenalinok9224 So what are some other options I might look at, then? What's stable at 80+ under 20ft with 5-7 seats and decent in roughish water that you might find in the gulf/Tampa bay area/not too far offshore of Miami/the east coast? I'm not gonna take the thing like 50+ miles offshore or anything, but I don't want it to be a death trap or just unbearable to run in the sorta-rough stuff. A high freeboard is nice, too. Don't want the steering wheel in my lap or my seats all the way on the floor, y'know?

That thing looks GREAT! Really cleaned up nice! I would have been content with its condition, where you started the video! Where did you find that seat!? I have an 82 XL500 that could use some love, and I like the way that seat looks! While you had the rear suspension broken down, is there any easy way to lower the bike a little? (I really couldn't tell) My 500 leans so far over, when on the kick stand. As I've seen in a lot of pictures, I tend to leave a 2x4 or something under the kick stand, so I don't have to pick the bike off the ground, when I get on it. I imagine a lot of the seat wear that I have, is partially due to that very issue. Aside from cutting and welding the kick stand slightly longer, which I expect would make the stand stick out a little when in the up position. I was hoping to find a way to reduce the clearance height just a LITTLE. Thanks for the great video! You've got a great looking bike!
@adrenalinok9224
@adrenalinok9224 11 ай бұрын
Thanks for comment! The seat and tank are from a 1985 XL 350. Some mods were needed for fitment. There is a height adjustment on the rear coil. As for the kickstand, all old Hondas suffer from the 'over leaning' lol. I think that extending the kickstand length is the only remedy!

Hi! I recently bought an 88’ toyota pickup and it has a lowering kit on it. I was wondering what i would need to reverse the work done to it and remove the lowering kit. Any ideas? I don’t believe it’s a bell tech kit but it does have the lowering blocks on the rear. I know I’ll need shorter U bolts but was wondering if i would need anything else to remove the kit. TIA
@adrenalinok9224

The rear axle will be simple for sure! But on the front, it really depends on whether drop spindles have been installed or not.. If so, you will have to purchase new spindles. The easy way to determine the spindles is to see if they are one piece(aftermarket) or two piece(stock). Hope this helps!!
