That brought back many happy memories of flying on the jump seat of 1-11s. My first ever flight on the jump seat was on a Court Line 1-11 aged 15 and later with Monarch and London European. Great days!

111 very noisy on outside but pleasantly quiet in the cabin due to position of engines, remember them well. Amazing footage. I flew in them often with Aviaco to Tenerife in the 80's !!!

I flew on a 1-11 on 17th June 1988 from Manchester to Ibiza and I really wish I'd paid more attention to the identity of the plane. But it was my first flight, so I was a little overwhelmed with the whole thing. I flew with Dan Air (Dan Dare) on that flight and this brings back happy memories, as the person I travelled with is no longer with us.

I was there at Manchester Airport the day Cpt Arthur Leslie French retired 1973! affectionately known to his colleagues as "ALF." He was a legend and true gentleman, old school. He travelled to work on his push bike and back where he lived in Hale Barns! His catch phrase over the radio was "Thanks Radar "! 559(Brussels - Manchester) contact the tower on 118,7 - 118,7 Thanks Radar 5 59 Good night! Remember one evening he was offered a straight in approach, he declined it as the passengers hadent finished tbe prunes and custard! I actually still have the audio on cassette, but i guess it will have perished by now, OMG 50 years ago!! Where has the time gone?

I flew from Manchester to LHR on Mike Juliet in 1980 then returned later in Mike Lima, wonderful experience, i adored them, In 1973 i was lucky enough to win a short pleasure flight from Manchester Airport upto and around Sefton Park and back, will never forget that day. Remember it was Victor Mike Tango and Cpt Ray Parkinson at the helm, it was an open day introducing the S-1/11 Manchesters very own airline, we were very proud to have it! I really miss those times, a wonderdul wonderful airliner with a 100% safety record for BA!

The BAC 111 was my first flight I ever made from Schiphol (Amsterdam) to London for a weekend in 1972, before that I had my first flight in 1968 in a Cirrus glider. What an experience that was for me with the BAC-111, I had a seat at the very back near the window (29A ?) so that I could hear the old-fashioned motors well. I think they made even more noise than a DC9, I also as a Dutchman of now 72 years old, always had great respect for English pilots (although those of KLM also do a great job) ... it must be because of all the films about the 2nd World War and 1940 with the brave Spitfire pilots in the battle for England. From 1972 I went to London 12 times with a Tristar and Trident three. in the last 10 years I have only made 4 flights with the Catalina above the Netherlands and made water landings on the IJsselmeer, the current aircraft no longer fascinate me...they are too quiet (great for local residents of course) and too modern...me enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere between the 2 pilots in this video, good job!

Thanks for your comments. We always enjoyed flying to Amsterdam - a nice short flight with no hills to hit at the other end and an airport with runways pointing in all directions and good air traffic control. It was a great place to stopover and we invariably came back clutching a case of your very fine beer under our arms!

Great video! I’ve always held a fascination for the One-Eleven, it being one of the very first planes I ever rode. I would’ve wanted to fly one except by the time I joined the airlines it was already all glass cockpits and fly by wire. Seeing this showed me what it was like. Thanks! Great job with the wet runway and crosswind.

Great vlog! It was Norwegian summer weather in Cork I see. Lol! Great job, great crew and thank you for filming! I never got to fly the 1-11. In Norway when the jets came, you flew what SAS and Braathens (BU) had to offer. In the 70s that was the DC-9 (SK) and the 737 and the F-28 (BU) SAS ended Caravelle flying in sep.74. Sterling of Denmark (NB) flew them until they went bust in sep. 93. Now you know!

Absolutely brilliant! Thanks for uploading. I looked after this BAC 1-11 G-AVMJ when she was displayed at the FAST museum, Farnborough airport some years ago. We just had the fuselage section but she stood on her undercarriage and was an interesting exhibit. Sadly the owner moved her to a technical college I think in Hertfordshire where I believe she remains to this day.

@@BasIcarus I've had two other times when I sat at the pointy end. One was aboard a TAP A320 when the F/O asked if I'd like to swap seats so he could eat his meal and two years ago I got the 'spare front seat' in a Cessna Grand Caravan for a one hour flight. That was fun! What a lovely aircraft. It had a luxury leather interior and Garmin glass cockpit. Nice!
