This is different for schools. The video illustrates a simple example of how this plays out. In middle and senior high schools in the US, students are given a physical ID. That picture is already taken with consent by the parents of minors or 18 yo students. That picture is uploaded into the software. Now when a student or faculty member walks by a camera nothing happens. If a person that's restricted walks into an area prohibited to them, a school or user can determine what triggers take place, as demonstrated in the video.
