Pectoral Fins pointing down, This shark is on edge, Stressed , Thats a potentually dangerous situation. Taking flight is not an option. Going up to the surface is the most dangerous part of any shark sighting. You must not take your eyes off the shark. Make yourself appear bigger and strongerany way you can.That shark is clean not many battle scars. One distinctive mark on it is the v wedge take out the back of the dorsal fin. No need to tag it for identity. It can even be recognised above water if its dosal fin breaches enough. Should name it?, If you have whats its name? How big is it?. Which ocean was it located? Ie East of Australia?. Or West of Australia? Off Tasmania or Off New Zealand or Don't want a pin point answer just a rough idea so its protected.

@@eazyrider6122 South East of Catalina island, south California, USA. Pacific Ocean! Probably stressed by the line stuck in her teeth. I was told very low risk of attack when they come close. And very rare attacking scuba divers too. Size probably 15ft+. Based on vertical body shape and the anchor line. We were a long way to the surface (about 30min) when it happened, so wasn’t the first thought (but indeed, the 6m deco in open water was interesting!!) I don’t know if she was ever named, but possibly with her size and marks.

@SailingIdefix Great info, Thankyou. So that was a line stuck in her side near the Pectal fin i think wow!. She needs that removed. Sometimes Sharks are very compliant when people aid them with removing such things, I wouldn't personally have the balls to do that. Ive only seen it done on video in shallow waters where a shark beached its self for help. I think it had net or something that had to be cut off. Maybe the only way here would to be using a big bait to bring it up and try to gaff the object to pull it back out?. You would have to be fully secure in a cage A very expensive excersise for sure and dangerous.

Always facing her is probably the only thing saved you guys. But if she wanted one of you there's nothing you can do about it. The craziest thing is how well her camo works. Anything more then 50 feet or so and she disappears into the back ground. Just crazy!

18 foot??? unlikely, she doesn't look 18 foot, at that length they balloon out all over in size. She still as a slender tail end which says under 18 foot
This would have been a lot scarier without the music lol

Nice big, healthy, pregnant female white shark. Pec fins lowered, mouth open....she is in defense mode and slightly agitated. Thank goodness her curiosity and trepidation levels were higher than her hunger and territorial level and in these waters off our coastline, mature white sharks have their hunger curbed because it is a birthing area....she is probably close to giving birth....amazing animal.
@SailingIdefixАй бұрын
Stress likely induced by the rope she had in her mouth too. I was told her behavior wasn't agressive and the GWS attack at full speed from far away, so eventually curiosity...
@Jefferson-ly5qeАй бұрын
I agree, seems this shark was not very interested in you. Full speed attacks are not very common on humans, I believe most bites are more driven by curiosity. An incredible sighting and an experience you won't forget in any case!

Amazing experience, Bro's. Very beautiful animal. I practice freediving for about 4 years in the fareast region of Russia, Japan sea. Month ago i have finally met my first shark, while falling down the rope on breathhold about 35 meters deep. I calmly stopped, turned around and started ascent by hands. She was 2.5-3.0 meters grey shark i think so. She just gently went around me about 90 degrees of the circle in distance about 5 meters and resumed her calm soaring straight to the blue abyss. I was just in silent awe... One of the best experiences in my life.

@@PeteJDunham - these for sure are experiences of a lifetime! Free diving likely enhance the experience, no bubbles noise! If you are on the pacific side of Russia and can one day fly to Fakarava, you can experience the wall of sharks - also grey sharks but incredible!

The commercialization of the sport defines the narrative and etiquette ha ha. Who can go and who cannot. A 'privilege'. One you should pay for? Is that where we are going? Not much prestige in being shark shit, I reckon. I think we should be honest and say that any appreciation for these oceanic meatsacks takes a back seat to showing off to your mates. The operators talk it up for $$$.

Nice scenes and I don't think the melodramatic music was necessary to highlight this awesome experience. BUT please be real about the "too close to comfort", as if you had nothing to do with her "following your ascent", when you obviously for all of us to see, approached her with the camera especially after the very close encounter where you had her back part & tail right in front of you. That would also explain the mouth gaping and lowered pectoral fins many already mentionend, either way you lingered a little to long in her personal space, which has proven time and again to really agonise G.W. and has lead to some near fatal "misunderstandings" even for divers (as I unfortunately found out). Better to just stay put and calmly watch, all filming aspirations should always reaming secondary as most professional divers with some GW experiences here on YT advise.

Kind of aggressive without knowing, so here are some more details you have missed from the video: - we were on a decompression dive, in the middle of the ocean. We had short timing to get back to the surface and based on the current and visibility, had to stay within the line. - the shark clearly came and check us out. And we both were staying as close as possible to the line. She stayed with us 3-4 min until she probably got scared by the other team going down with their scooter. - the video is far from good quality because i had other things in mind that proper framing! - after this experience, i talked to enough shark experts (outside of KZbin) to get appropriate comments on the situation, and whether we reacted correctly.

Not sure if you anchored at Teapaa, we spent some time there back in 2019. On a couple of occasion a bunch of very aggressive locals came out and threatened to cut our anchor chains if we didn't leave. We didn't leave and I understand this doesn't happen anymore, as it is a public anchorage.
@SailingIdefix5 ай бұрын
we didn't anchor there (too scary with the "skull face from the sky !!! ;-) - but it seems it is best to only takes the 3 moorings if you want to. People dont want anchors to damage the coral in this area. it is possible to anchor on the sand on front of the bay with low draft boats.
