This is how it should have ended, if they still wanted a Season 8 as they had it, and have the same actors for Brian and Sophie. Have Brian and Sophie fly off, and almost crash into another ship, and have them near the windows or on a comms screen or something, and then the other ship falls to earth, and those two aliens take the forms of brian and sophie. There you go. You have the same actors and the same set up for phase 2, the new aliens dont know about earth, etc. But you're not wiping 7 years of development of the characters we actually care about.
