Do you happen to know what weight the pendulum is on this? I just got one at an antiques shop (same exact one) and it seems to only be missing the pendulum. Thanks!

I just bought a new Haven clock. Radium or uranium face on it. Brass housing. When I wind the clock it has tension but just keeps winding and never starts working. Any tips to getting it working?
@theryanmarshgallery4922 жыл бұрын
Could be a spring lock called a click spring in which stops the winding action and allows tension to build. otherwise it could be a broken spring. Time for a repair shop it sounds. Remember a broken spring can be dangerous if you try to open it up yourself. Watch a tutorial first. Good luck

Is there anything you can use to coat the resin plugs to make them skin safe or non toxic ?
@walkingcorpse12243 жыл бұрын
When Resin is fully dried and cured it becomes harmless to you. It's only dangerous while in its liquid form. All the plastics that many gauges such as acrylic are made up of are in the same boat, many say that it causes cancer, but that's only if it starts melting, it doesn't cause cancer in its solidified state, and this is for all plastic plugs, including the silicone plugs. You'll be fine, however I won't lie, resin plugs are not good to be wearing for constant use as they can build up bacteria and many people have allergies to plastic, so if u start to feel itchy, ur more than likely allergic to the plastic material. I actually live in the desert, and I had some resin plugs in my hot car for God knows how long and all that happened was that they got all discolored, but surprisingly, they didn't melt or anything. 😅
@theryanmarshgallery4923 жыл бұрын
Thank you @walking corpse. And my apology @Dezpeeps. I had not seen the notification. The resin is safe to wear and non toxic, as it is fully cured.

Nice clock. If I may add, the 89 stamped on movement is the model no. The 89 movement was used in these clocks from about 1901 and in other clocks through 1938. I also have a Seth Thomas Tambour style mantel clock with an 89 in it. It only strikes a gong. The 89 that strikes both gong and bell should have a “C” behind it. It’s commonly known as the 89C. As far as date guesstimating we can assume your clock here is no older than around 1900 or 1901. Prior to the 89 Seth Thomas used the #44 Hip movement which had 3 5/8 stamped on back plate. Some early versions of 89 with bell were simply stamped as 4 1/2 . The fraction stamp had to do with pendulum length. Having 2 clocks with an 89 movement They are strong runners. Most Clock historians believe the 89 movement was the best movement Seth Thomas company ever designed. They continued using 89 movements in these Adamantine clocks for around 1919-20 +\-

Oh OK! I always wondered how that worked. There are two panes of glass AND THEY TURN! The way someone else explained to be I expected the whole thing to turn so that sometimes the 12 will be on the bottom. That didn't make any sense to me and I never saw one upside down. SO now I get it! Mystery Solved.
@jacemandt3 жыл бұрын
I *think* there's only one pane of glass that turns once per hour, and gear mechanism in the back that drives the hour hand turn at 1/12 the speed.

Love the Alice theme, may I suggest a Dark Crystal themed chessboard? Halloween, weird, and the macabre are in my blood. Is it that time of the year or is it just in the Marsh chemical make-up? Edit: t is awesome how all the family is involved, that is so important today! Keep them close and hold them tight, always let them know how much they mean to you.
