I think this type of battle was not common between Roman and Germanic army. The Germanic tribes knew very well after some battles that the Roman army has better equipment and tactic. They usually tried to use the thick forest and swamps to their advantage so they used almost a partisan type of tactic against them, it is why later the Roman legions were also afraid to go too deep into the big ancient forest of Germania. Also it is why the Romans created some mysterious tales about the people in Germania, as most of it was never conquered by the Romans.

Aunque sea una ficción la batalla me pregunto si máximus tenía de antes despejado el terreno boscoso o estaba utilizando una zona fortificada, ya que los bosques germánicos eran impenetrable casi o de difícil acceso, lo de atacar la retaguardia germana con la caballería me cuesta creerlo...es cosa de recordar lo de las legiones de varo sorprendidas y aniquiladas en Teoteburgo.
