Because we eat. We don’t look around, talk, look at our phones unless watching something while eating , etc etc.

If you're in a date you should know how to pace yourself, eat between bites. Downing all your food faster than your date is rude (unless you're already in a relationship). It makes it awkward for both of you. One person is eating still, and the other is just sitting there watching them eat.
