This is a long one, but I feel a need to say it: The people who deny the statements of fact that Fil documents right on the screen in his videos are foolish. It doesn't matter who Fil is. It doesn't matter whose videos he examines. The data is the data. I understand the data. I know sound, I know A to D and D to A conversion, I know electronics and music. I can glance at the data FIl shows and will tell you exactly what he tells you without ever having listened to what he says about it. He's not talking about the performers. He isn't expressing an opinion. He's overlaying data. He's talking about what the data shows. He isn't interpreting trends, or probabilities. There is no argument about it. Any audio tech on planet Earth will glance at the data and tell you the same thing Fil tells us. It's like reading the words of this post. If someone else posts exactly the same words I am posting in my comment here, then anyone who can read will tell you that one of us plagiarized the other. Anyone can tell that. It's not a matter of opinion or interpretation. It's simply impossible for 2 long comments to be identical by chance. The physical alignment of frequency, phase, and amplitude over time of an acoustic waveform being absolutely identical is orders of magnitude more unlikely than all of the words of a long comment. It's even easy to tell if a professional opera singer sang the same note twice, or once and you have 2 copies of it. That's as large a sample as is necessary to tell if they are different. They can try all day long to create 2 absolutely identical notes, but they can't. They certainly can't create an exact copy of an entire song or any part of it. If they aren't faking it, then the data (and Fil) says they aren't faking it. Pretty simple. If they are faking it, then the data shows they are faking it, and Fil shows where they are faking it. Then the only thing for a decent performer to do is to acknowledge it. I once went to a David Bromberg show where he came out on the stage and rasped out that he had laryngitis, and it had gotten worse all day long, not better, and that anyone who wanted to could get their money back at the club's bar, but that he would put on what show he could for those who had gone to the trouble to come for the show. Everyone in the club looked around at everyone else. No one moved, no one. People on their way to the bar for another beer stopped in their tracks because they didn't want David Bromberg to think that they didn't consider him worth the money they'd paid for a ticket to the show. We all could have gotten our money back and still stayed for the show, but we all just stayed right in our seats. He smiled, and said "Thank you. I'll do my best." He did, and it was damn good. Yes, he croaked and rasped some, and no one gave a damn. Other times the words out of his mouth pulled our hearts right out of our chests or made us all feel like badasses. Of course his guitar work was as superb as ever. It was David Bromberg, and he was putting on a show of raw talent and wonderful music, performed from the heart, music that affected us. It was the best show I ever went to. I treasure the memory. That is what some entertainers don't understand. We're fans of their music, but we're also very much fans of them. We relate to their music. We respect their talent and their skill. They have given us something of themselves, something that matters to us. It has helped us feel better. They are friends we've never met. We don't come to their shows for perfection. We have perfection sitting on their albums at home. We come for them. David Bromberg understood that. He showed honesty, and respect for his fans, friends he didn't know. Ken Tamplin doesn't understand that, and his dishonesty and lies cost him what friends he had, when all he ever had to do was be honest. But I get the feeling that he hasn't been honest for a very, very long time.

Tamplin and his group are pretty good at faking it. What Tamplin should do now is teach people how to fake it. I haven’t seen anyone do that, but I’ve seen several big-named groups faking it and screwing it up much worse than Tamplin’s group did.

As a long time singer I don’t understand why you would fake your singing on your youtube channel.. Just sing and play. Let people comment. If it’s live people will forgive some of your mistakes. We all make them. Live, in the studio. It’s no big deal. If you use pre recorded vocals for some stuff, just say it in your disclaimer and why you’re doing it. Sometimes you can use it for effect or to just try it out. But don’t lie about it. Pro’s will find out and they will call you out.

Gossamer Dream...my absolute favorite one! It's so great to hear him playing electric guitar--I listened to the replay of his interview--yes, he said that he got a new neck for his strat but he also said that he had to get used to the thinner neck of an electric (versus acoustic). @@blaineca I didn't get the feeling you were calling Eric himself greedy and I'm sure others didn't interpret it that way either. However, until I am certain Eric has rid himself of his vindictive hangers-on I can't in good conscience donate anything - I could never potentially risk supporting anything as harmful to the fans and ultimately to Eric's career as the people he had managing him some 8 or 10 years ago. It is totally natural for middle-aged male singers to lose maybe a half octave from their high register - which can make things very awkward if you're known for a song you can't sing anymore. Sting of The Police still tours, but he performs his hits in a different key and he isn't particularly honest (in my opinion) when he avoids explaining that or other people like his band members offer odd reasons for why the song doesn't sound like it should. You can understand Tamplin finding this ageing process very difficult to navigate when his Vocal Academy videos seem obsessed with how to get the high notes. He's still a decent front man for an OG rock band - unlike Elton John and Rod Stewart who basically have about 3 notes left and should have retired 15 years ago, or perhaps even 20 years ago. Same for Tom Jones.
