My CRV Hybrid ( bought new in March 2019) has just suffered brake failure. Brayley Honda, dealer, have diagnosed Brake Pedal Feel Simulator failure. £2350 to supply and fit new part - when they can get it. They submitted a claim to Honda UK for goodwill. But no, as car is just over 5 years old, no goodwill from HUK. This surely must become a Europe recall at some point?
@carxtras
@carxtras Күн бұрын
Sorry to hear this Michael. Did you recently have a service with a brake fluid change? Usually it happens after the 3rd service as brake fluid enters the simulator unit and kills the circuits. I see your car is a bit older, but we believe the Japanese recall did include CR-Vs going back to 2019. Logic would dictate a recall, yes, but seemingly - as when a failure occurs you are warned of the fault - this is not categorized as a safety issue. That's obviously not the case in Japan. When the part arrives is another point. Some Jazz owners have waited over a month - likely because in Japan they're still doing the recall for 500K vehicles. Hope you get it sorted soon. And definitely worth maybe taking this up with Honda directly (kick up a fuss saying it's the same fault that was publicized in the Telegraph article and more and more Jazz / HR-V / CR-V owners are experiencing it). Mentioning that you're discussing with CAB may also be useful. Technically if out of warranty - unless you can prove the fault existed at the time of sale - then it would be a gesture of good will. But still worth trying!

Many thanks for this. I have had a 5 year service plan with my dealer, and the last was carried out in March this year. I will ask when brake fluid was last changed. Are you CAB? What does it stand for? And yes, I’ve read the Telegraph article and will ask the author for further advice. I know my being well out of warranty is a disadvantage, but surely HUK can come up with goodwill. @@carxtras

@@michaelelwyn6541 The Citizen's Advice Bureau used to advise on how best to pursue such cases, especially if other owners were in a similar situation. I see that, today, they're referring users to the Motoring Ombudsman (see www.citizensadvice.org.uk/consumer/buying-or-repairing-a-car/motor-industry-associations/ ). I think going to Honda UK and giving specific examples of owners who received 40% goodwill gestures (there are some on ClubJazz for example) may help your cause. This is now a known fault with the Jazz / Honda e / Honda HR-V and CR-V. With Honda's UK market share where it is today, I'd have thought that every customer would count! So the better armed you are explaining your case, the more likely you'll be to get a good will contribution. Don't be fobbed off. It may be weeks of hassle, but you have a good case!

The Honda Jazz I purchased in November 2020 has just had exactly this issue. It's at the Western Honda in Edinburgh who advised me yesterday that the repair would cost over £1900. They have reached out for a goodwill gesture from Honda but this is not good enough. I have heard of another UK Honda owner emailing the MD of Honda about this issue and receiving full compensation. I would advise that we all do the same. If they receive enough complaints about this manufacturing issue, they should be pushed to do a full recall of these models.

Many thanks for your comments Abigail! In other feedback below we've included a link to the Clubjazz forum. There's a specific thread on that forum where a couple of owners have now had a positive response from Honda UK to the effect that a repair will be done FOC even though just outside of warranty. I would cite those cases - and also the recent Telegraph article to your dealer / Honda UK - and simply ask what the difference is between those cases and yours. More than anything else, the discrepancy between owners having to / or have paid vs. those who receiving the FOC fix is the most annoying factor. And having to pay so much - when it's clearly a manufacturing fault - falls short of Honda's high standards. So best of luck and let us know the outcome if you have a chance!

My 2020 Honda CRV Hybrid had multiple warning lights on starting, so was driving to Dealers to get it checked when the brakes ‘failed’ in rush hour traffic- so scary. Now I know about the extent of this manufacturers component failure !( brake simulator), and have lost all faith in Honda’s safety and reliability reputation, after owning four Hondas over 20 years. Surely there has to be an urgent recall in UK before someone gets hurt.. Replacement brake simulator to be replaced even though out of original warranty- I suspect dealerships now getting authorisation to try and handle this epidemic !

Hi Tom, the Dec 2023 recall in Japan (which covered over 500,000 vehicles DID include the CR-V although only a chassis number range was given - not the model year. But it may well have affected 2020 models: www.honda.co.jp/recall/auto/info/230331_661.html. If you have a similar chassis number then it may still be worth pursuing with Honda UK, especially as The Telegraph have pursued this topic with Honda. Interestingly, on Clubjazz.org most of those affected are RHD Honda Jazz owners (like Japan), not LHD vehicles. It may be that European owners are less inclined to join the group, or that sales are lower in mainland Europe. So we're trying to gather more information on why - if at all - there's a discrepancy between LHD and RDH. Also, we suspect that, manufacturing the part in large numbers just to cover the Japanese recall is why nothing has been done in Europe so far...Which is not great optics in itself! Feel feel to subscribe as we shall come back to this topic. And provide updates to owners here too. Thanks again Tom!

Thanks for your comments James! Very glad it was covered under warranty! And certainly it's concerning that, while a recall was issued in Japan, action has not yet been taken in Europe despite the mounting evidence. And be honest a plug-in hybride on long holiday trips through Europe is not practical and therefore not environmentally friendly. And for poor road surface package? It's more a feeling that this will be of added value.

From the discussions we've had there's unlikely to be any significant power increase. For 2WD where torque steer doesn't figure at the current output, Honda believe they're at the sweet spot. However, if tweaks for the geometry set-up are done as outlined to us, then there could be some very minor output increases, but nothing to shout about.

wow! extremely useful and well delivered "real-user" review from small channel in the world where "million subs car guys" manage nothing but describe looks and buttons, and rarely acceleration. I'm a recent Crosstar user, just two month in and closing to 2k km. Thanks to car-sharing services I was able to try a whole lot of different cars but Hondas, and bought one based on reviews and tech specs and love the car more and more as I use it. Need to see how it does in winter. I totally agree with almost all your cons, including "one dashboard rattle". It seems to come from around infotainment system (display) connected to the console, since sometimes it goes away after firm presses around it (and now I think that I haven't heard it for a week). Honda app is not available in my country, and lack of backseat armrest is puzzling when you have all those more costly and sophisticated features in it. Could you please share your experience with battery in city mode? With speed limits across the city in 30-40 mph range, it rarely goes even to the middle of the gouge, switches to EV, comes back to 3 stripes (or how to call it) in approximately a mile, then switch to generator and back in constant loop. No one on YT or anywhere talks about it. So I have no any benchmark opinion I can judge my experience against. Is it normal? Does it stress battery? How it will impact battery longevity? (all questions are rhetorical, I do not expect You to know the answers. just venting). All I have is just blind faith that everything works normal (which seems it does). Funny enough, Honda dealer does not provide any support (even checks) of batteries to see if something wrong. All they can do is just replace it when it's obviously dead.
@carxtras
@carxtras 10 күн бұрын
Thanks for your great feedback and questions! Taking each one in turn, what you've described is perfectly normal! Unless you've covered some distance downhill (when you get more recuperation), or longer distances on the motorway, the middle of the gauge is pretty normal. And yes, it will switch between EV only, Hybrid and generator mode frequently in daily traffic. Normally, if the battery gauge falls under 3 bars, it will then kick in to charge it more. So the "loop" effect, as you called, it is how the system normal performs. There is also a "cheat" mode at idle if you ever want to put more energy into the battery at will. It can even be filled to all the bars on the gauge! To do this, if, after starting in EV mode (i.e. the engine doesn't fire up) press the accelerator while in Park halfway and hold it. The engine will then kick in and start charging the battery. When you release the accelerator it will stop charging. Going forward, there should be no impact upon battery life as Honda's hybrid system is as good as, if not smarter than Toyota's (there is also a batter warranty of 8 years in most markets). Also, when the car is serviced you can - at extra cost - ask for a multi-step instrumental diagnostic with a test drive to check the condition of the hybrid system. This is an extra 30 mins labour, but will give you additional peace of mind if you plan to keep the vehicle for a long time! In winter, fuel economy is slightly less than other times of the year (as the engine will kick in when the heating is turned on). But it's still very efficient!! Funny we both had the same rattle ;-) I guess this is one of the few improvement measures Honda can work on! Thanks again for watching and commenting. We'll have many interesting videos coming soon, so feel free to subscribe. It does help us!

For me, battery configuration was an important factor. When comparing BYD's 60 kwh battery to MG's 64 kwh battery, the BYD battery is LFP compared to CNM for MG's. This means BYD's battery is safer, more environmentally friendly, more durable, and can be charged to 100% over and over again. Had my Dolphin for 1 month now, and super happy with it.

We're happy you still had coverage, although it's not surprising about your courtesy car issue, as their goal is to "limit the damage" in terms of how much is paid out. The less of a hit they take, the more money they make. Unfortunately, when farmed out in this way, loyal customers of a particular brand - if treated badly - will take their business elsewhere. That's no surprise given that the HR-V is exactly the same under the bonnet as the Jazz. No European announcement has yet been made, however. I’ve owned my CX60 Homura PHEV for 14 months/9,000 miles. Frankly, it has suffered from most of the issues mentioned in the video, but my Mazda dealer has been nothing but brilliant, promptly rectifying all. It has been off the road for five days in total, which I don’t think is exceptional for a new model. There is no doubt on release that the car’s engine management software and fault sensor systems were less refined than they should have been, but now it’s all fixed it is superb. The few mechanical issues couldn’t be tested until in mass production and Mazda soon fixed those. I love it more than my previous Mercedes 350E and Jaguar XJ, plus I saved £20,000 compared to comparative European models. I think there is merit in avoiding any new model for twelve months until ANY manufacturer has ironed out initial teething troubles. I had this problem in early April this year with my Jazz hybrid. The car was bought new in Sep 2020 and had done just 9000 miles when the fault occurred. As the car was about 6 months beyond the 3 year warranty I got no help at all from Honda initially. I had to pay for a recovery vehicle to take the car to a local Honda dealer as it was not safe to drive. I was informed it would be some weeks before they could obtain a replacement part and I could expect to pay over £2K for parts and labour to fix it. The dealer contacted Honda UK on my behalf and they initially offered to pay 40% of the cost of the part as a goodwill gesture. I did sone research online and discovered that this fault was affecting dozens of other owners of this model and there had been a recall in Japan. I emailed the MD of Honda UK, pointing out that this fault was due to a manufacturing error. As a result Honda eventually agreed to pay for the whole cost of repair, parts and labour although I was still out of pocket having had to hire a car during the period of over 3 weeks that the car was off the road.

Thank you for your detailed explanation! It seems Honda have come good in the end (albeit with you losing out on the car hire, unfortunately). But knowing how some manufacturers gaslight their customers in similar situations, I think this is a great result! As said, we really appreciate you adding this comment, as it seems a significant number of Jazz owners may find themselves in a similar situation in the near future. Otherwise, the Jazz Mk 4 is a very reliable car. Just a shame this part has issues and is extremely expensive to fix (not that customers should have to fork out for a manufacturing error). Hopefully a recall will be issued shortly.

6,700 miles on my 90 Turbo S Premium Plus model. I get compliments on it everywhere I go. But unfortunately, it’s the best looking problem vehicle out there. It’s in the shop, AGAIN. This time they can identify the grinding noise coming from a smooth acceleration- either transmission or engine- but can’t seem to find the exact source of the problem - almost three weeks later and still no fix. Other problems I’ve had- driver side mirror wobbles at high speed, lift gate does not open all the way, back seat leather getting warped, both front doors rattling. Some of these were fixed, some have yet to be. The problem is: there’s no suitable replacement out there as far as other vehicle options- if you’re considering safety- the Lexus TX, Toyota Grand Highlander, Nissan Pathfinder, Infinity QX60- all fall miserably short in their crash tests. MB, Volvo CX 90, Audi Q7, Lincoln Aviator, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Chevy Traverse, don’t have the reliability that Mazda is supposed to have. Hyundai Palisade and Telluride are everywhere so if you want to have the same car everyone else does then those are good choices and the Acura MDX does not offer vents in the third row seating. Except maybe mediocre foot vents that will do nothing for you in the dead of summer when you’re back there sweating. To top it off, Mazda thanked the first buyers of the CX90 by dropping the price by over $4,000! If you purchased yours in 2023 or early 2024, it is now $4,000 cheaper for the same CX90!?! Which will translate into more money lost when it comes to the resale value of it. Mazda customer care has offered (one car payment, or any accessory, or a $500 gift card) to make it right) I like to think I’m good at math but all of these combined don’t even add up to half the money lost over night from the manufacturer. From an aesthetic standpoint, Mazda got it right. From a reliability standpoint, they missed the mark on this one but will probably get it right, from taking care of their loyal customers who were the first to buy the 90, they’ve lost a lot of people who were loyal to the brand.

Thank you Shane for your really detailed breakdown. We're sorry that you've had a long list of problems. Hopefully these will be sorted in the end, but yes, the residual value question is one that applies to vehicles in Europe and Australia too. That 4K price drop is huge! Fingers crossed you continue to get the admiring looks but better with reliability with your CX-90 too!

It happened with my 2020 Honda E with 26,000km, which was already out of warranty. €1600 was paid to change the Brake Simultaor and I waited 2 months. The new part is already improved and with a different serial number.

Sorry to hear that you had that experience :-( Hang on to the e though. It's a great little car that will be a design classic in 15 years time (and by then you can probably update battery pack to solid state). You'll be the envy of everyone!

@@rafalkrasa Hi, it should be at 1:57 in the video. The part number may vary according to region, but we believe the UK and US part numbers given are correct. Thanks for commenting!

Yes - I have a Honda Jazz 2020 model. Apparently many Honda Hybrid vehicles manufactured in 2020 have this fault. Thank goodness some publicity is becoming available.

Fingers crossed you'll be unaffected and enjoying what (for many others) is a largely faultless car (sticky wing mirrors aside that is). Really appreciate you commenting .-) Many thanks!

@@carxtras Unfortunately my Jazz Crosstar has been undrivable since 30th January 2024. I’m trying to get the Honda garage I bought it from to repair or replace free of charge as this fault occurred during manufacture. Very pleased to see this video - some backup at last 👍🏻

Lots of people on the owners forums starting to experience this failure. Nothing to do with mileage, more of an age related issue. 3.5 years approx. and it fails. The attitude of Honda UK has been appalling. My 72 EX Style still has 3 years of a 5 year warranty left, so hopefully if it happens to me it will be within the warranty period.

Many thanks for your comment! Yes, those Honda owners lucky enough to have received an extended 5 year warranty (this was a special offer a few years back) will be okay. If not, it would be helpful to know which VIN ranges are susceptible. But as Technics999 mentions, no official recall (as yet).

Why no recall in the UK for such an important part - Brakes for heaven;s sake!

I have a feeling it will come. But Honda are dealing with the Japanese market first. Hard to tell, apart from through the Honda e and Jazz forums, which models are affected. Potentially CR-Vs and Civics too, but only Honda currently knows the extent of the problem in the UK, Europe and elsewhere. In the US, they have another issue on their hands though, which is to do with Honda Sensing...

Skoda withdraws Simple Clever. No black headliner. The previous model had no roof in the sedan. And the price is the same as for the E class and it's only SKODA.🤣

Very informative. As a Mazda CX60 in-line six petrol owner in Australia it’s very disappointing. I feel people signing to buy these off the plan were used as Beta testers. Also I was never offered a test drive. I was told I didn’t have to accept it if I didn’t like it but when it arrived I was not offered any choice but to take it.I have had the safety recall for steering and software update that has remarkably improved the transmission. Still awaiting the rear suspension replacement but it’s been a few months now. I feel there should be a safety recall on the active cruise control. It’s potentially lethal. When passing a vehicle in the right hand land (we drive on the LHS here) on a highway at 110 km/hr (that’s metric folks) if using the cruise control the car will often falsely sense there is a vehicle in front of the car when it is on the left and start to immediately slow the car down. If there’s a vehicle behind you and you don’t act to resume speed fast you can be at risk of collision. Please Mazda fix.
