I dont think ive ever written a comment before, but this is the right time. This song means so much to me, it was an immediate favorite, and i think the video is perfect. I would have loved to see the world they created for the song in a different video in a different timeline, but this is so impactful. My name is Eva, so this story has always felt a little personal. It was absolutely the right choice to focus on the person and the emotion instead of on beautiful and creative visuals. The closeup forces us to confront eve's emotions, she pulls herself together knowing that she has to take it for the good of the partnership, but shes clearly hurting in the aftermath of the Fall. "I will always take the fall for us, but we both ate the fruit, my love." Shes disappointed in adam, which gives the double meaning of paradise lost. They lost the garden of eden, but eve also lost her relationship. It will never be paradise again. Womens emotions are so often ignored, so its so touching for this team to create a video where we have no other choice but to pay attention. I also want to point out that shes not wearing makeup (i think?). We HAVE to pay attention to the emotions, seen closely and on an uncovered face, instead of distantly and through a metaphorical veil. Its not "oh look a beautiful done up woman, look how beautiful she is when she cries." Its "see her, see how shes hurting." Also, thanks for casting a brown woman to play eve when christianity is so white washed. I feel like this video perfectly matches the themes of the album, unreliable narrators and truth and fiction and righting historical wrongs. I love this album, ive been listening to bastille since the day the pompeii music video came out, and im constantly in awe of dan smiths creativity and musicality. This album is different than the previous ones but still has the same bastille sound, just matured! His lyrics are some of my favorites because of how fun they are to analyze, like poetry, and the instrumentals are so complex and interesting. On the off chance anyone in the bands circle sees this, thank you for putting a spotlight on women in this album, and for not making a big deal about it. Thank you for every choice youve made, note youve played, word youve sung. We have been here with you the whole time, and i will be with you until you are ready to understand Zheng Yi Sao (and probably after).

I was at the concert in Berlin and hearing you sing this song live left me speechless. It was SO good!!! You've got an amazing voice and it all came together so nicely. Can't wait for the next time I get to see you live (also since hearing it live this ones become one of my favorites from Ampersand 🫶

I know someday bastille may stop touring all together because i know how much of a toll it can take to perform, but please never stop making music and sharing. Everything that comes out of their brain and into music is absolutely brilliant every time.

I took the fall for us, babe, never saw it as a debt I got this gut feeling that somehow only I will pay for it We gave into temptation, shame came, we pulled on some clothes I got this gut feeling I'll shoulder this fiction for us both I will always take the fall for us But we both ate the fruit, my love, though we both ate the fruit When they say I was made for you (ooh) I love you so, but still, it's hard to get my head around it (ah) When they say I was made from you (ooh) I bite my tongue, and hope my heart can get its head around (ah) Our paradise lost, our paradise lost (ooh) So we hid there in the garden, fruit was dripping down our chins Who'd have known that I'd be carrying our babies and our sins? No one warned what it feels like, had no mother, sister, friend You said, "Calm down, " rolled your eyes at pain you'll never comprehend I will always take the fall for us But we both ate the fruit, my love, though we both ate the fruit When they say I was made for you (ooh) I love you so, but still, it's hard to get my head around it (ah) When they say I was made from you (ooh) I bite my tongue, and hope my heart can get its head around (ah) Our paradise lost, our paradise lost (ooh) Our paradise lost, guess I'll bear the cost (ooh) Our paradise lost, guess I'll bear the cost

This gets an F from me, I think the directing is boring, the shot is monotonous, and the actress can't hold my attention by herself.

I think your reaction is fair! I think this video maybe had a different goal than we expected, it focuses more on forcing us to confront eves emotions than on action and complex visuals (which kinda mirrors the meaning of the song imo). Its not your style, and thats ok! I hope you like their other videos!

Love Bastille!! ❤ I love your music and how it explores deeper topics. The songs have a cheerful beat but the lyrics are often depressing and sad, meaning you can listen to the songs when you are both sad, happy, or anything in between!! 🎉 🎶

being diagnosed with so many mental disorders and stupid little chronic health problems,. I don't know- I guess this song kind of speaks to me a bit. just that desperation, that tiredness, I'm fed up. but then the worry- who would I be without it? because of the ocd, apparently I'm resilient. because of the depression, I'm caring for other people, because of the anxiety, I think things through. because of the ptsd, I I'm gentle with people. these are all things I've been told, and I guess I should cherish those.

I, too, have dove deep within a love once long lost. I’ve lost myself in the paradise with an overwhelming cost. Life has swallowed the hope, long gone. I’ve buried myself with love, forever lost.

The classic puzzle of the Drawbridge and Baroness. I also had to look it up. Smith gives life to an oddly academic puzzle. Basically the baroness was warned by her husband not to go out before he returns at dawn or there would be severe consequences. She waits awhile but decides to go see her lover in town. When she returns the drawbridge is up and there is a madman guarding it to threaten her. She goes to her friend, her lover, and the boatman and is turned away. She goes back to the drawbridge to be slain. The old puzzle asks 'who is most to blame for the death of the baroness?' The boatman for not taking her across, her friend for not loaning money to help her, her lover for not helping her out, the domineering baron, or the baroness herself for her transgression
