Baseman! i'm working on my cb400f and i can't get it to run really nice like yours. it seems to either lug at low throttle or lug at high throttle, no in between. how did you get yours purring like that? standard jets, 2 turns out on the mixture screws?
@sebs27Ай бұрын
Best would be go through everything very carefully, check the rubber inlet manifolds for cracks, then clean the carbs very well, the jets may be clean but sometimes the fuel passages may be blocked 1 1/2 to 2 turns should be correct check float levels to, to much/little fuel in the bowls can cause a lot of smooth running issues

of cause once its in the bike I will need to re check settings, but its always easier doing all the first checks outside, the carbs are not easy to remove once in the bike

I have a CB400F and want to replace the Oil Pan but do not know what direction to UNSCREW the bolts. Before I begin work, I wanted to reach out and ask if you can help out. The engine is currently mounted on the bike, not off and I will be removing the pan with the bike upright. I really would appreciate your help to avoid any errors and potentially stripping any bolts in the process.

I use to use the exact set of gauges. I haded having to sync the gauge set first before using it to make sure the gauges were scync to each other. Like yours, the needles are not the same when at rest. And no matter how careful i was with mine, they never stayed synced. I just left the covers off the gauges so i could get to the adjusters. But i have since switched to digital 6 port manometer. Dont get me wrong. It gets the job done but the more accurate, the smoother at idle they run.
@sebs2710 ай бұрын
Yes these gauges are very basic as you mention, I have considered upgrading, but I very rarely balance carbs so its not worth it in the long run. Maybe if my KZbin channel takes off one day I can get a state of the art set.

Great that it starts again. I must say the engine has a bad knocking sound. Could be a crank bearing?
@sebs27 Жыл бұрын
Hi No what you heard is a bad exhaust leak (its been repaired since), these bikes have roller bear cranks.
@mrtopcat2 Жыл бұрын
My comment comes too late, but running the bike without battery has a good chance of frying the voltage regulator/rectifier. I have my XT600 for close to 35 years. It is in storage now and I only start it every once in a while to get things moving a bit. But I always hook up a 12V battery when doing so.
@sebs27 Жыл бұрын
You are correct, not only can it damage the regulator but blow lights and so on too. however under idle with a few gentle revs it will be fine. This XT btw has a aftermarket regulator

Nice Build, I will have to try a wooden CNC build myself, I have also been following BobsCNC ch. Main change id make and you too can do this is make the bed a tortion box and mount Y rails lower so you have nothing obtructing the sides and you can use it as an asembly table when not routing.
@sebs272 жыл бұрын
Yes that would work quite well especially if you are limited for space. It could mean your side posts might potentially flex more as they will need to be longer. But Im sure with a little bracing that could be sorted. thanks Ill look up bobsCNC.
