I'm trying to grasp the way this instrument works. If I understand correctly there are 3 individual outputs, one for each Alter module. The looping is caused by the fact that at least one of the alter modules is set to a long delay. Is that correct? Thanks in advance for your reply and also thanks for uploading this nice piece of music! :)

You are correct. There are 3 alter modules which each have 7 stereo effects.

Awesome stuff! Recently got the same one myself. I have a few questions about it. Although mine sounds great. The drum modes don’t seem to change the sound at all, only in the right position. And oscillator 2 only works in the middle drum mode position. Or in conjunction with another key it changes the pitch slightly of the other played key. Is it the same for yours? Thanks.

Thanks for your comment. I’m sorry to hear about your drumscape. To me it doesn’t sound as if it’s functioning correctly. You could see if the seller will return it & if not you can try get hold of Folktek to fix it. Good luck & let me know how it works out.

@_skysick_4 жыл бұрын
I haven't been able to find a cogent explanation of the pins and patch matrix. Can you try to explain?
@SummaRiot4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment. The basic concept is that the pins access the individual circuits of sounds. Matter 1 used cables to do this, the new matrix is more robust & easier to patch. 3x CV channels, with 2 Matrix per channel. The V+ control mixes between the 2 matrix. The part to understand is that they are not 3 separate voices, all of the matrix interact with each other to create complex patches. I hope this kind of helps, please feel free to ask any follow up questions
@_skysick_4 жыл бұрын
@@SummaRiot It helps a little, but when you insert a pin into the matrix, what exactly does each hole do? When you insert the pin, are you "connecting" two things together, as you would be when you use jumpers on the Matter 1? What's being connected?
@SummaRiot4 жыл бұрын
The pins are direct access to the sounds, but there is no apparent logic to which hole makes what sound, because each pin affects the overall output of sounds. It’s very experimental. You could spend 2 hours patching pins and get garbage and then add or remove a pin and get musical gold

Summa Riot Most excellent! Going to have a listen now. I am very intrigued by the Folktek gear and your use of it is some of the finest I’ve heard. I have a Mescaline coming in a couple of weeks and I am delighted for the inspiration your work provides! I shall look forward to hearing more!
@SummaRiot4 жыл бұрын
It’s nice to hear you are inspired by my work. The whole concept of mind over matter was a quick set of recordings using only Mescaline, as a way of learning how to use it, so I think you’ll find it most enjoyable. My goal with folktek has always been to coax melody out of them and mix that beauty with the harsher soundscapes that Folteks work lends themselves to.
@WiredSpaceWizard4 жыл бұрын
Summa Riot Indeed! My approach is going to be very similar. The unpredictability of Mescaline combined with my love of more modal synthesis ought to produce some very interesting results. I may have questions for you once the Mescaline arrives. I have to admit I’m a bit afraid of it! 😊

This is so cool. I never thought of using a tuning fork on a garden before. Really ingenious idea. I'm looking into getting a drum scape. From you experience, is it more useful for creating ambient sounds or could it be used for more melodic lines as well?
@SummaRiot4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I’d had the idea of tuning forks years before I got a garden, the results are quite pleasing. As far as the Drumscape goes, it’s pretty unruly. My favourite thing to do with it is to create feedback patches with the delay and run it through Alter 2. Hope this helps.

Really soothing jam, I've replayed it several times! I have a question, though. Based on your experience, is there a way to "force" Matter II to track v/oct or something like a predictable pitch? Like syncing the three v+ with the same pitch CV? If I recall correctly Matter's specs, those inputs have a 5V range so - hypothetically - five KB octaves...
@SummaRiot4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! If I remember correctly the answer is yes, however good luck trying to get it to stay in any usable pitches. Folktek do have 2 dedicated Oscillators in the works if you are looking to hook a keyboard up to something.
@quelgianchecercavi4 жыл бұрын
Yup. I'd prefer Matter over any dedicated oscillator because of its unique sound and its patching capabilities: two or three Matters and an east-coast dynamics section would make an interesting synth, to me. So: no pins and three identical CVs in v+ should make a pitched drone. I hope ASAP to have chance to try this idea. Can only imagine what it's like to destroy a melody while patching (or cross-patching! Jeez...) the matrices!
