like to see the cuts on wood
@ThemeXDigitalКүн бұрын
If you were to do this on wood then I would suggest cutting it all out then painting, then gluing it all together afterwards, but be careful not to paint the edges of the yellow name otherwise you could have a problem fitting it into the outer blue offset edge.
@voader4gamingКүн бұрын
That looks great. But i have a question . If you have the word Andy's and around that the outline and that is 1 layer , you need to cut them both out and put them together. What about the kerf to make them fit?
@ThemeXDigitalКүн бұрын
If you cut them out as this example (the same paths) then they will fit perfectly, I wouldn't worry about the kerf as its so small and not noticeable. I made one for my little boys room out of acrylic and it was perfect 😀 I would only play with the kerf settings if you wanted an extremely tight fit and in this case its not necessary.

Love the video. I’m trying to figure out buying my first laser. Would a CO2 laser be the best for doing something like this? Would a diode laser be perfectly adequate?
@ThemeXDigital8 күн бұрын
Hi, CO2 lasers are generally larger and more powerful machines than diode lasers, but they also cost more too. It all depends on your budget and what size you want to do too really, Diodes are also a lot slower than CO2 lasers as they are not as powerful, But you can cut woods with them, It just takes longer. Hope this helps, Thanks Gav

Very nice gathering of example art work. "Hits the spot" for me as I am looking for a nice/style to focus on. In your research, have you found a way to gather more in-depth statistics on number of individual piece sales? I am curious as to for a middle-range price, say $200, which type of items are "best-sellers". This past Christmas, I built 15 layered card stock pieces for family. All were not my design, but each received a lot of smiles and kudos. Many thanks for all the content you provide. I am an xTool S1 owner and appreciate the videos on XCS.

Hi, There are tools out there such as eRank, Everbee, Alura and EtsyHunt etc which give you some data but I don't think it uses Etsy's own full API, I think they may use some limited version to get some data so these will be your best options. Other than that you can just look at the reviews on each shop and search by the most recent and then visually see which items are selling better than others. At a guess I think maybe only 10% or less of sales leave reviews so again this would only be guesstimating! That's great that your gifts made people happy, that's what its all about 😀 and Thanks for watching!

Thanks, as always! Your videos have been an amazing help to me. I have been working my way through your entire catalog, and I have been thinking to myself, "Gosh, I need to ask him to do a video on Boolean operations, because I never understand what's going on and why it doesn't work the way I want." You read my mind! Hey, there is one topic that would really interest me. I don't really understand when/why to use groups vs unions vs compound vectors. I would love to have a better understanding of the use-cases for each one, and how to use them properly. When I release a compound vectors, I often get a complete mess that I need to do manual clean-up on for included regions. There must be a better way. Groups frustrate me. I sometimes need to group some text with grouped graphics in order to center them, but then I ungroup to edit the text and the graphics are completely ungrouped as well. Is there a way to group groups and have them still retain their original identities? Maybe I should have made the graphics a compound vector instead of a group. I would love to understand this stuff better. Selecting elements can be frustrating for me. I will often select the wrong thing. A quick video with tips on how to select just what you want to select within a complex design would be fabulous. There are a TON of "Beginner's Guide to XCS" but very few covering the more advanced topics. I'm somewhat new (about 6 months), and I have a Lightburn license but I have never used it (it kinda intimidates me). I find that XCS can do a lot, and with the help of your videos I can hopefully avoid Lightburn entirely. But that would also be an interesting video: What does Lightburn do better than XCS, or what can it do that XCS cannot do? You mentioned in one video that Lightburn had a better scissors tool, but I didn't understand why you said that or if there is actually a use-case that would justify the hassle of using Lightburn or just put up with XCS? I know there is one feature I would really like to see in XCS that may someday force me to learn Lightburn: the Variable Text feature. I do a LOT of custom name engraving, and it would be FABULOUS if XCS could read a flippin CSV file so I could just batch 16 personalized coasters or 100 luggage tags! Editing text in XCS is a pain. I often find that I can't correctly double-click, and I wind up shifting the text instead. Grrrr!!! So far I have been bearing it, but my business is growing and this will become unmanageable. Hey, a quick video on how to do this *one specific thing* in Lightburn would be great as well! I don't want a whole Lightburn tutorial; I just want to know how to do stuff in Lightburn that I can't do in XCS (or would be a lot easier in Lightburn). I can always shift SVG files back and forth and only use Lightburn when needed. Oh, another topic: How can I cut a shape in half? Or along a contour? I usually wind up making two copies of the shape/contour and doing two subtracts. What a hassle! There must be a better way. Thanks again

Hi ThemeXDigital, Just thought I'd let you know in XCS 2.4.27 (maybe also earlier versions) sadly this method no longer works - I came back to this tutorial as I couldn't get my Happy Easter sign to work thats when I realised they have changed the software. At the point where you seperate the letters you now have to right click the text and "Spilt Text" (so that you can move those letters individually) and not use Weld. This then negates the need to short out letters like a's o's etc that have cutout bits which we used to "make a compound path" as they now are already joined. Then when everything is moved to be overlapping I unite as per before. Hope this makes sense and helps someone, I don't have the skills to make my own video tutorial 🙂 PS Thanks for the tutorials they have really helped me get started
@ThemeXDigital9 күн бұрын
Hi, Yes I did notice that and I have plans to make some new videos on the text tool and making signs etc this week, I just haven't had the time yet 😉 I'm glad you figured it out though and its great that now everything is still live text and you can make changes before converting to a path or uniting 😀 Thanks Gav

When I select offset, it doesn't give me corner style options. Is there a different way to make the bottom pointed?
@ThemeXDigital17 күн бұрын
Hi, I am using the latest version of XCS which is V2.4.27 which has the new Offset function, Please make sure you are using this version so you have the corner options. Or you can simply go into edit mode on the larger heart and use the handles of the bottom point and adjust it manually to make it pointed. Hope this helps, Thanks Gav 😀

Brilliant! I have been doing inlays recently using Mandala patterns following a tutorial for laser inlays using engraving and a negative image (from Trotec Laser). This is a great way to do one of my own design as well. Altough I do like the stacked effect too. I see you're using the new XCS. For those perhaps confused by the Outline (now "Offset") options this was added in the latest release. Thanks!

Love your videos. But I have one problem that makes it impossible to follow. I do not get the function "offset" but only get "outline" and with this I can only create a outer line... Do you have some Idea how that is?
@ThemeXDigital23 күн бұрын
Hi, I'm sure you can do the same thing with outline, I think they have changed the name of the function. But for some reason you can't do this then I would just do the update to the newer version of XCS. Thanks Gav
@nog2you23 күн бұрын
@@ThemeXDigital Hi, I´m on the Current verson (v2.3.24). With outline I can only generate 1 outside line (or inside line if I go negativ) but it will not effect all the other included shapes. With this I can get to the point of having the main Layer ready, but then if I want to create the 3 "bigger layers I would have to break up the compound and do every an negative or positive outline for every shape in the Mandala... It is really strange. I also do not have the mm grid (only cm) and can not find any settings for this...
@ThemeXDigital23 күн бұрын
Hi, Ok if you can choose to do either outside or inside then I would do an outline of the outside shape, then the same for the inside shapes and either make them a compound shape or group and then delete the inner original shape. Then I would do the same for each other layer you want to add. You should be able to do a negative inset of all the joined compound shapes but if not then you may have to do them all separately? I can't really check now as I don't have the older version installed anymore. Or you could just do the update to the latest version of XCS?
@ThemeXDigital23 күн бұрын
Also the latest version that I am using for this is V2.4.27. If you go into the settings you can check for an update there.

Thank you! I had asked in a group how to make part of a line cut and part of it score, but never received an answer. This explained exactly what I needed to do! I used the pen tool to trace some patterns that I made and was able to shave off 14 or more seconds processing time on each. May not seem like much, but it is a set of 13; so I am able to save 3 minutes and 41 seconds when I process the set.
