I loved her acting but it was *horrible* that they had no representation for average weight or overweight EDs (except the binge eater, of course) and played the shock factor of bony underweight… as if we didn’t have enough stereotypes of what an ED “looks like”
@puppycatsupremacy5 ай бұрын
there were literally 2-3 average/overweight patients lmao

@moodywrites4 ай бұрын
@@puppycatsupremacy hi, no. There was one. And she was the stereotypical binge eater, of course. They made not only the anorexics underweight, but the bulimics underweight, which is statistically inaccurate. They also shoved the shock factor in your face as much as possible… literally starting out the movie with skeletons walking down the halls. You know, what ‘real’ eating disorders looked like. 5 years after the DSM 5 came out with diagnoses of atypical anorexia and OSFED. A little bit of representation is not that hard. But it doesn’t make very much cash. People are out here dying because they don’t “look like” they have an eating disorder. They had no fuxking excuse and the apologists for it aren’t helping.

@@moodywrites not you explaining eds to someone with ednos lmfaooooo. i know it was all very stereotypical but just be happy they even included bulimic and BED patients
@moodywrites4 ай бұрын
@@puppycatsupremacy not you explaining EDs to someone who has had one for 8 years. Yeah. I have. And I’m 20. So maybe I know a thing or two. And I have a permanent, debilitating chronic illness directly caused by my ED and not getting help for years. Because I was told I looked healthy even though I was killing myself. If you have an ED you should know how harmful this is, “You don’t *look* like you have an eating disorder.” “You’re *thin enough* to be starving yourself.” “But *you look so healthy.* It can’t be that bad.” “You don’t need help. You look fine.” I’m will NOT be happy for less than the bare minimum. A movie that claims to be spreading awareness on a disease has a damn responsibility to represent it right. People *die* from bulimia and BED and you want to give them some sort of trophy for throwing it in there, like it’s not just as dangerous as anorexia? People *also* die from normal average weight EDs. *People die from atypical anorexia and most of the world doesn’t even know what that is.* They had no excuse. There are gravestones of people who didn’t “look like” they had an eating disorder. They reinforced a stereotype of what an ED looks like if you really need help. They told everyone who’s sick and not emaciated that “no, actually, you don’t really need this amount of care. This is what a *real* eating disorder is.” They reinforced the myth that kills people. What good do you think you’re accomplishing by excusing and coddling them for it? *There are gravestones of people who didn’t look that way* A little bit of representation is not that hard. But it doesn’t make very much money, does it?

I’m genuinely sorry to be the only one to dislike the video. I thought that the video was not made well. I mean the scenes weren’t put together properly. Some sentences were cut off. One example is the first scene. It’s really short but it’s still got cut shorter. The sentence in which the facilitator of the group response is cut off even though it contributes significantly to the scene; gives you context and makes it funnier. There is no transition in-between scenes.

literally there's absolutely no way getting that skinny wasn't extremely dangerous for her, I know it's a thing some actors have chosen (gaining or losing dangerous amounts of weight) but they need to be upfront about the risk on their long term health tbh, also with all the technology amd cgi available now it's mostly unnecessary.
@swegatron2859 Жыл бұрын
@@UnBesoDeCristal they said they used cgi for some scenes to accentuate bones. But ironically she has a similar body here and in the new season of Emily in Paris
@khronicallykatt5 ай бұрын
@@UnBesoDeCristalim fairly certain they use quite abit of makeup to enhance the hollowed out look around her ribs, collar bone and cheekbones especially to make her look a lot more sunken in but she did lose abit of weight too and is naturally very thin. I’m sure she ate throughout filming as any of the other actors did
@Kwadratura4 ай бұрын
Not talking about psychological part, but she actually had an anorexia when she was younger so I don't think that putting her body into this stage again is responsible of her? Her body still remembers it and it's still traumatized, so its response could be a lot more drastical than at first.. As far as I know she gained her weight back after filming as she planed, but still it was dangerous tho

Things I have learned from my experiences. It's okay not to be okay. Sometimes you have to much going on. Ask for help or deal with it the best you can. It doesn't make you weak, just human. Secondly, knowing how to love you body. Healthy doesn't mean looking a certain way. It means you are taking care of your body and listening to it's needs. The hardest lessons to learn and accept.

That scene struck me in particular! It’s almost as if she’s going back in time. It’s the type of closeness most people desperately crave but refuse out of shame, guilt, fear. After learning about anorexia, I realized every muscle in her body probably wanted to reject the milk, but the need for that moment with her mom overrode that. I think she truly wanted to get better

So when I first watched this movie, the girl reminded me of her. Any time I watch it I automatically think of that girl. lol.
