This album and Rabbit Run by John Updike were very dangerous to my youthful relationship in my 20's. Needless to say we didn't last. Dulli will always be a turd but man he could write and sing some songs.

I think it was Brixton Academy in 1993(?)🤔 can't recall for sure now, but during the gig a very drunk Dulli was fairly mashed whilst playing. And at one point he stopped the gig to get off (snog!) with a girl at the front of the mosh pit. Much to the bemusement of the band and the rest of the audience! She was definitely game, I remember that! 😊 I also remember some annoyed guy shouting out - "For fuck's sake! Come on! Get on with it, Casanova!!!"

This is the true definition of 90s Alternative (along w/ a few others) and I want to echo the "criminally underated" sentiment so many others are mentioning.

Strange the god of your name is (?) in two Shells and silvery scales and torrents of blue One more pilot fish come to swim with the shark Dreams of bloodiest extremes picks me from their mouth. Stars shining bright above you Night breezes seem to whisper "I love you" Bodies swinging in the sycamore tree Dream a little dream of me. Cold your blood is your soul but blood is the lie Soul, the hand that you hold before you arrive You're perfect, you're worth it your friends said I guess that it's true You mean it I've seen it The poets got nothing on you Stars shining bright above you Night breezes seem to whisper "I love you" Bodies swinging in the sycamore tree Dream a little dream of me. Arriving back at the Shoreditch crossovers… I leapt onto the grating escalators and moved up a level rapidly through the Hoxton defences, west along the Old Street conduit towards the mega roundabouts and the exits onto City Road. The rushing crowds, floating along in their bouncing bubbles and the whirring cars were on the increase again, and I was the least affected as the conveyor belt buckled fiercely, screeching under the extra strain of the herds… sheep like, borg citizens… surfing… serfs… villains? I took small notice, indulging my own selfish musings... and with the long bygone tunes magnifying the occupancy.

To address some of the old comments here, Sleazy did hear this album and had nice things to say about it. He had this to say: "I LOVE THEM. It is the first time somebody with musical sensibility and talent has put so much time and effort into covering Coil songs. It totally passes my 'hairs on the back of your neck standing up' test for the whole running time of the album. I was awe-struck." Bonnie "Prince" Billy's style is a little unorthodox so I can see how it turns some people off, but he's also been a long-time friend of the English industrial scene. See also his "Idumaea" on Current 93's album "Black Ships Ate The Sky."

It's a metaphor for being addicted to heroin for those folks who are upset because you've been to prison and this isn't what it's really like. It is like heroin addiction!

Its like love that isnt. Like heroin.
@InfotainmentScan5 жыл бұрын
Believe me, I like to read drug themes into songs as much as anybody, but in this case, it seems to me like heroin addiction is really more of the metaphor for the dysfunctional relationship -- the reverse of how a song seemingly about love (relationship) can be using it as a metaphor for heroin (like "There She Goes Again").
@MaineConservative764 жыл бұрын
The entire album is about sex addiction and a tumultuous relationship!

I am a huge Coil fan and have been for years. I remember looking forward to their new releases and ordering them from the Threshold House website. This tribute album is really something special because it captures the essence of the songs while teasing out new moods from them and putting emphasis on different elements of the original. Coil was a big fan of covering songs they loved in styles that were dramatically different, so this is a more than fitting tribute.
