I live in SW KY... Have Bermuda in my yard and haaaaaaaaaaate it. Spreads way too aggressively and takes over the flower beds. Next season I'm going to raze the lot of it, so trying to nail down a good grass type and brand.

But it's been said in many vedios that iron, zinc uptake of plants will only happen in low pH. So if there is a high amount of phosphorus in soil all the iron and zinc will be consumed by reacting with phosphorus. So if we could maintain a high pH level phosphorus won't disturb the uptake of iron or zinc as per the explanation? Hoping for a response as I have some iron deficiency issue, which has a lot of different explanation on KZbin

Thanks for this information! I'm here because I'm reading Regenesis by George Monbiot and was looking for a picture. Pg 21 "Earthworms...excrete everything they can't absorb onto the surface of the soil, in the form of casts." "In...this orchard, earthworms can bring to the surface 40 tons of soil in every hectare every year."

Would Seashore Paspalum be suitable for shaded areas of a large residential backyard with a saltwater in-ground swimming pool nearby? Thanks.

Mr. Danneberger, I know this is old but perhaps you'll see it. I have a 1,200 square foot putting green that I built in my backyard. Sand based rootzone. I'm currently topdressing at roughly 100lbs per 1k every two weeks. It is slowly but surely removing the imperfections in the surface and my .135" HOC is very playable with stimp readings between 10-11. It's come to the point where, given I don't have substantial traffic on the green, I believe I can apply a heavier topdressing rate to alleviate some light thatch build up and firm the green even more than it is. My question is what is the rate of this application? I see things like 1-2 tons per green during aeration, but that doesn't help me. I simply don't know how heavy, heavy is. I'm using USGA spec kiln dried sand that is effectively identical to the rootzone. I buy it by the 50lb bag and have about 50 bags at the moment so I have plenty of sand.

Fine fescue is such a nice looking grass for my state of PA. I just have issues keeping it green in sunny areas. But overall i love the look of it for a home lawn.

I have established a new green on my farm. PLanted in August and it’s beautiful except for the earthworm castings are so bad the turf can’t quite close in. What can I do. Just wait for winter? They will be back in the spring.

So cultivars are basically a sub-set of varieties, right? It just depends on whether they evolved due to human interference or not. Is that it or am I missing a larger paradigm?

Correction factor? I know what it means, but how is that applied on fertilizers excactly? Is it an estimate of soil type you're going to spread it on?

10 months late, it is the amount of Phosphorus in Phosphorus Oxide. Which means per 1lb of Phosphorus Oxide, there is 0.437 lbs of Phosphorus. Calculation is done by stoichiometry. Phosphorus Oxide is 142 lb/lbmol and Phosphorus is 31 lb/lbmol since there is 2 lbmol P in P2O5 you multiply that by 2. 142/62 = 0.437 This is important for researchers so they can calculate the appropriate amount of phosphorus needed for their fertilizers. Excess phosphorus can lead to oversaturation in the soil making it hard for other nutrient absorption, this can lead into stunting of plant growth. I'm sure there are more reasons (eutrophication like the one talked on this vid).

Is it the corn gluten itself that is controlling weeds or some level of glyphosate that has been uptaken from the soil the corn was grown in, residually there from previous crops that had been grown there? Meaning, glyphosate in the gluten even when glyphosate was not used directly for that particular crop of corn growth? Is it the glyphosate doing the killing? I suspect that the gluten allergy everyone has is really due to glyphosate in the gluten, not the gluten itself.

Hey thanks for showing what a 'worm cast' actually is. Garden channels mention these but don't show an example. Well, as a novice gardener, I thought it might be it's skin like a snake would shed. But now I know what those small piles of mud are, thank you.
