If you're going to tumble obsidian, be careful because it's very brittle being that it's pretty much glass. This is an interesting thing to me and the KZbin algorithm is starting to send things of interest to me very recently. Good luck tumbling your stones 😊

I know some of them, tigers eye you are right, purple quartz=ameythist, pink and black is pretty speacial rock, it’s Rhodonite, lots of quartz, smoky, and clear, the black glass is obsidian, banded chert on the black and white maybe? The blue could be a kyanite, hard to tell with out looking and feeling them, and yes there will be a test on this lol 😂, jk, enjoy the journey, pink quartz is rose quartz, I can’t name everyone cause I’m not looking at them in person, good luck

I’m working as an English teacher in Seoul. It’s been a month so far and I am really worried I might have to do a midnight run.
@mythosthebear Жыл бұрын
I wouldn't be worried. If it's what's best for you, go for it. If things aren't that bad or get better, then that's wonderful. In the end, all you can do is make a decision - my hagwon was very abusive and deceitful and I was so stressed and unhappy that I became physically ill. If anything, your school should be worried that they're causing someone to do a midnight run.

It's a pretty cool place. Definitely check out the open air market. The downtown Daiso is HUGE, but the one behind the mall is less crowded and I think has three or four floors instead of the two? Also, make sure you get Korean BBQ and try some makgeolli if you're a drinker. The American BBQ place on the "Green way" is actually pretty good, though not really American (maybe American style? Inspired?). Good luck!

Hay, what are the consequences of a midnight run? I heard that you could be banned for life. Is that true?
@mythosthebear2 жыл бұрын
No. Other than financial and a bad reputation with the school/recruiter/etc. there aren't really any consequences. I would just make sure that your bills and everything are current before taking off. Unless you've been convicted of a felony, you're still eligible to apply for a visa in the future. In my case, I was never paid and my withheld pay was more than my bills and other miscellaneous made up charges the school was trying to pin on me, so I had nothing to lose and no ill effects. Just make sure you block all numbers and emails from your school and/or recruiter, because they will try to get a hold of you.

@@mythosthebearSo sorry you had to go through all of that. I recently did a midnight run as well. :( Though I'm hoping to go back again next year & work for a friend of a friend who runs a nice hagwon, with no nonsense. If you don't mind me asking, is there a way you can know for certain that you aren't blacklisted by Korean immigration? I see people online saying that the stories about being blacklisted by immigration after a midnight run are all made-up, but do you know if there's a way to know for certain if I'm blacklisted? I'd really just like to know if I can go back & try again next year.

Watching this much later as my daughter is planning a midnight run. Please know your video has helped at least two of us. I can just feel your pain coming through and I send virtual hugs from afar. I hope you are doing better now. I’ve taught in the U.S. for going on 20 years. I am just horrified at the abusive work culture and deceptive practices of her Hagwon. She feels like a failure for wanting to quit her first job out of college. As a mama bear I just want to fly over there a fix it but obviously just a rage fantasy. Do you have any advice for the logistics of getting out of there with as much of her money as possible?
@mythosthebear2 жыл бұрын
I'm so sorry this is happening. It's definitely not an ideal situation, but if she's having doubts or experiencing harm to her emotional, mental, and/or physical health, she definitely needs to leave. I left on a long weekend, so I had plenty of time to pack and leave. I would suggest she book a ticket asap and see if she has some friends, preferably not from the hagwon, to help her pack or assist in getting rid of items she doesn't need. I'm not particularly sure about the money aspect, but I know there are some services that allow you to transfer money from Korean accounts to a foreign account with minimal fees. However, I also know a lot of people advise closing your account before leaving. If possible, maybe try to schedule it to occur right after a paycheck is deposited?

I relate to this story so much. I left for Korea in May of 2020. I did a midnight run at the beginning of August. the Hagwon I worked for was a living hell. I stayed as long as I did because I didn't want to give up. but it got so bad that I just conceded defeat. glad I left. I don't regret it one bit! Korean hagwons are batshit.
@antonviet88753 жыл бұрын
Hi! Are there plenty of teaching opportunities in this city? Very informative btw!
@mythosthebear3 жыл бұрын
Anton, there are tons of private schools in the city and they are constantly looking for employees. However, the school year starts around March, I want to say, so if they're looking for you to start other than for the beginning of the school year, chances are they're in a bind due to poor employee retention. That doesn't bode well for you as a potential employee. Additionally, make sure you have everything spelled out in plain English - if they tell you something means xyz, have them add that exact wording to the contract or in a letter of explanation signed by the director so you can hold them to it. Always ask to speak to a new teacher and an outgoing teacher if possible, that way you can get a good idea of the environment. If the school is constantly backtracking, not listening, or acts shady, cut contact and look elsewhere.

I love midnight runners. My previous hagwon had two midnight runners within 6 months. They asked me why they did that, I explained what the teachers said to me about it, and they started blaming me for criticizing the school when I was just a messenger. Lol, they were trying to contact the teachers overseas demanding a termination fee, surprise surprise they failed. They then tried to find the recruiters and demand they pay for the termination fees. They failed again, happy ending. If you are a manager of a hagwon facing multiple runners… maybe try a different management style lol

Hi girly, I need some advice as I am in a similar situation. I just got here and I worry about breaking the contract and being sued. I just can’t handle the stressful work though, feeling the major anxiety. I totally understand what you were going through
@mythosthebear3 жыл бұрын
If you're planning to stay, try to negotiate with your director to get a letter of release. ALWAYS have your phone on you and record any conversation - if you're going to ask something, even if it's benign like paper or pencils, make sure you record because you never know when they'll just pull you into a meeting or say something you can use against them. If you're not planning to stay, don't worry about it. Hop on a plane and never look back. Block them and their numbers on all platforms and devices and move on.
