You're still leaving tap water in the engine block. Hard water results in corrosion in the coolant system. I would get a few gallins of distilled water and just fill it through the radiator fill while running the engine They're like $1 a gallon

Do you have to have the fuel line on/off thing ?Will it flood the carbie if you don't have it
@fuel_up4 күн бұрын
I do have a fuel shutoff on mine, but don't always use it. Sometimes it can cause the carb to flood, but if you shut off the fuel and leave it for a long time, the fuel can evaporate and gum up and cause problems with the inside of the carb

So you run the truck while running the hose through it? And how do you do it without the thermostat? Because the thermostat is was seals the radiator hose to the block on my ram. Thanks in advance
@fuel_up5 күн бұрын
The truck is a 1997 Dakota with the 5.2L 318ci magnum engine. For this engine you can remove the thermostat and reinstall the thermostat housing to keep the cooling loop complete and still run the engine. To do the flush, remove the upper rad hose. With a garden hose send clean water through the top radiator port, and let the disconnected upper hose be where the water exits the engine. Collect the flushed water in a bucket to watch for any debris and also check for when the water comes out clear. Hope this helps!
@BobertDoodle5 күн бұрын
@fuel_up thanks man, helps a lot 👍🏻 I'm gonna try it on my Gen 4 ram 5.7 and see if it will seal well enough without the thermostat.

Sounds like the engine is a heavily watered down 250 motocross 4 stroke. It needs eithed a full blooded offroad dirt bike engine, or mich more displacement. This thing with even a 250 2 stroke would be a blast. Give us 50hp, not 25.

Yes, you should always clean the oil filter seat properly. Also you should always put new oil on the filter seal to lubricate it & stop it from sticking, so it comes off east at the next change. Your oil is very black, you should change the oil in this engine more often, & you could also go to a slightly thicker oil for this engine.

@fuel_up16 күн бұрын
I don't have any specific links. My favorite place to find parts is definitely Amazon. Try to find a part number off your current parts to help your search. Basically all pocket bikes are the same, so I don't think the brand/model matter, you mostly would want a part that looks similar. Hope this helps!

@fuel_up19 күн бұрын
Since we were doing a flush, we just used the garden hose because we needed lots of water. Then we let is all drain out. If you are using concentrated antifreeze to refill the system, then you would want to mix it with distilled water.
@JamesBurks4 күн бұрын
People say this all the time and they don't know WHY they are saying this. You only need Distilled if you're planning on putting the petcock back in, closing the rad cap and running the engine to temp to clean out any stubborn debris. You use distilled for this because there's no mineral content. If you're just flushing the system like this, you don't have to use distilled, you empty the system after you turn the water off and you fill it back up with Coolant. Running hard water through a cooling system is not bad for it, running a closed cooling system with hard water for long periods of time is where the damage comes from mineral buildup.

I always put the felt battery terminal pads under each cable, and soak them in transmission fluid, and put transmission fluid on all the exposed wires at the battery terminals and battery terminals. Keeps corrosion down to almost none. And check them every couple months, and re apply fluid as needed to keep everything damp.
