Really interesting podcast episode. Thanks, Gabriel for the insights. I want to push back a bit against the idea of doing the two stage reserve deployment (pull reserve out, and then throw it manually in a second step). While this might be the best thing to do for experienced pilots, I think the average pilot would not benefit from this technique, because it is too complicated for them to do in an extremely high stress situation. Many pilots don't pull their reserve at all in such a situation, leading to catastrophic outcomes. ANY reserve throw is better than no reserve throw. Keeping it simple increases the likelihood that they will throw at all.

Hey, Glad you liked it, and indeed what you've said makes complete sense. Although the scenarios we're talking about here are more broadly categorized into something that you'd encounter after gaining a bit of experience, but regardless it's instinctive at the moment i believe unless you start training otherwise, in which case you're gonna end up finding your own preference anyways.
