@ I’ve got the same issue with the buffeting hitting me squarely in the chops,I’m 6’ and I don’t really want to go too tall with a replacement,does that manufacturer give any guidance?
@JustABillMoto4 күн бұрын
I am using my imagination a bit on this, but paying close attention to my sightline. Depending on your torso length (seat to eyes) you may be better with the 24 if that's above your sightline. In the end, it's a bit of a guess. www.clearviewshields.com/about-your-shield/choosing-your-shield-height/

The final drive drain plug has perfectly normal metallic particles attached to the magnet along with some other debris from normal use. Nothing to be concerned of there. The gear oil draining into the container looks very clean. The miles are very low on this bike. There would be no real need to change, upgrade or improve any of the internal components. However, understanding or becoming aware of the gearbox output shaft cir-clip issue, might be worth your attention. You have found a very nice R100. Change up the paint if you like along with other cosmetics, service regularly and enjoy. Thank you for sharing the video. Cheers.
@JustABillMotoАй бұрын
Thanks! Yeah, that gearbox oil was essentially new. Clear and smelled fresh. The only thing I noticed was the the small amount of metal on the plug and the crush washers being a bit underloaded. Two of them showed no sign of use at all. I would have given them a little more. I am definitely going to add the taller 5th gear, so I'll be getting into the gearbox either way. I did that on my R80 and it is a good addition to the top end on the highway. Since this will be used for long trips, I think I'll benefit from that. Some other stuff along the way may be worth doing while I am at it. In the end, it's enjoyable as a hobby.

Yep. In the time since these videos, the footboard and lever geometry is my only reservation. If it were better, I am sure. I would have bought one. I may still reconsider that decision.

Very strange and unfortunate to have those two rare failures at the same time! Now I'm trying to remember if I locktighted those little set screws...
@JustABillMoto3 ай бұрын
Yeah. It was really odd to lose both at the same time, more or less. That had me going back over the electrical system a few times to be sure it wasn't something else. In the end, one was a failed solonoid and the other was a mechanical error. It just let's me know how long those grub screws would last by just being "as tight as I was comfortable with." It's had no issues since then, but I am pretty sure I would not use this style of ignition system again as the grub screws will be a worry over time.

Only breakdown I ever had with my R-90/6, in 13 years of ownership, was when the aftermarket electronic ignition system randomly cooked itself out on the road. I trailered the disabled bike home, immediately pulled-off the electronic ignition system, reinstalled the original OEM breaker points --and never again had a problem. Sometimes (often) simplicity is the superior approach.
@JustABillMoto3 ай бұрын
Yeah. There are a fair bit of suspect options out there. This was all on me though. This is one of three bikes in my garage and all the modernization is an experiemnt, so I will continue for now.

Regulators are a weak point in nearly ever make of bike except Yamaha, the battery sulfates in little time causing regulators to overheat, some have no heat sink or airflow.

Good job. Bike looks great! I have same year/model RT with RT bits removed so it’s a basic R80 now. Mine is kinda boring to ride in stock form. What are your thoughts on the Siebenrock 1000 kit?
@JustABillMoto3 ай бұрын
Thanks. The Siebenrock kit is excellent. The only thing I didn't like is that the cylenders are from a different cast pattern than the originals, so the mating surface on the block had a different profile. It was only a little annoying since I had already put sealant on the block. As for power, It's excellent. It will add 8-12 HP and I definitely notice that. Granted this bike had 263K miles on it and got essentially everything replaced and refreshed, so I am sure I am getting a cumulative effect. If you go that route, I would definitely do a full carb rebuld at the same time. This bike will gladly pull even if I am already going 70mph. Since I am not a small guy, it's impressive. If you still have not swapped your suspension, I would add that to the list as well. Taken together, it will really improve the ride and make it feel like a much more modern machine.
@bhoward0013 ай бұрын
@@JustABillMoto Thanks for the input. Re the suspension: On the front, did you do anything beyond replacing the springs? On the rear, what shock and spring did you use? Thanks again!
@JustABillMoto3 ай бұрын
@@bhoward001 Yes, new progressive springs in the front which do a good job of reducing the sponginess. For the rear, I went with the Ikon from EME, but the YSS option also looks good.
@bhoward0013 ай бұрын
@@JustABillMoto I took off rear shock and removed spring. When I pushed and pulled the piston rod in and out it was smooth and seemed well dampened. That said, do you think I would still notice an improvement with new shock like setup you bought? Thanks!
@JustABillMoto3 ай бұрын
It really depends on the age of what's there and how well it holds up to the total load. One of my bikes had a fairly expensive rear shock that was made for a smaller rider, but it was no good for me. If the spring is too soft or a bad fit to the load, it can feel spongy or overly bouncy.

Yep. RT's are undervalued it seems, and a great option for projects. I also have a 91 that I got when looking for a parts bike and it is also in excellent condition. I am just going to give it a refresh. Most of the RTs I find have been unloved, but are still solid.

This is the only video I found with the Daedalus and the side bag. So the bracket for the bag and the Daedalus can be fitted together? Or did you make any adjustments for it?
@JustABillMoto8 ай бұрын
No adjustment was needed. As I recall, there are a few aluminum spacers that come with the bag's mount. Once the tail tidy was on, I may have been able to remove a spacer, or shift it a bit. At the time, it was obvious what the correct fitment would be, and I did not have to modify any parts.
