What would you do if a winger was running down the baseline and had a striker in the d??? It's happened to me so many times but I still can't figure a way out to counter it

@@Muffinboi4 if he’s got his eyes down and not yet in the position to pass then you can be bold and come out quickly to smother the ball. Comes with risk but is fun. Safer option is stick to your post but be aware of the other attacker, keep an eye on him. Then as soon as ball is passed you know exactly where you need to be. Come out and close down. Get both legguards on front of his stick head or get your pads down and chest in front if he’s going to slap it quickly. Most importantly you need to communicate to your defenders clearly where they need to be to stop him receiving the ball in the first place. Good luck

@@Muffinboi4 remember communication stops more goals than you will with your hands and feet. Stop the ball getting into the D by helping your defenders to intercept passes by moving them left and right. You see the whole game it’s an advantage. I will stand at the edge of the D and talk to the guys constantly to keep them sharp. Be active in the game rather than just a piece of foam on the goal line. Eventually you’ll be making tackles with your stick outside of the D which is a lot of fun

@04:17 - this was removed from the game some years back (before the 4 years ago the video was posted). Comes under section 10, GK Conduct. Not permitted to conduct themselves in a manner dangerous to other players by taking advantage of of the protective equipment. Appreciate this instance did not cause danger, but the umpire guidance back in 2012 or maybe slightly earlier was that GKs could no longer do this. Came under potential danger creation by taking advantage of the kit worn (i.e. without kickers, you wouldn't be punting the ball!)

Paul, appreciate it's from a while ago, but just came across the footage. Thoughts from an umpire somewhat higher than these two... @00:24 - stick block by attacker, FHD (incorrect call from ump) @00:36 - FHD, raised save to be treated like an aerial, clear receiver under it, green required to yield until grounded and under control. @01:14 - stick block, rule 9.12 & physical interference (hand off stick, pushing tackler away) rule 9.3 - Free Hit Defence (FHD) @02:18 - good outcome, odd explanation. Simple obstruction, rule 9.12, by pink #18 @02:31 - improper injection, rule 13.3(d) -PC should be retaken @02:37 - save caused no danger, lifted ball was available for safe pick and control, danger (9.2 and 9.8) was created by green #27 reckless swing (Green #'27 should have been on a warning for the silliness earlier when frustrated, probable picking up a technical green personal warning at this point, to prevent escalation. @02:42 - improper injection, rule 13.3(d) - PC should be retaken @03:54 - obstruction, rule 9.12 again...shielding with body (leading overstep left leg to shield/prevent legitimate play at ball) - wrong call, should've been a PC against pink/your defender (green #61 correct to be confused at decision) @04:02 - Green #61 incorrect to be confused this time - definitely asking for 9.12 obstruction, but you cannot have that ruling if not trying to play the ball, Stick was in the air, no attempt at ball denied. play on. @04:11 - ump missed the last touch squeeze off green stick after the tackle, right under his nose. 16 the right call. @04:27 - good decision. clearly collects ball cleanly, no sign of contact with body or stick, green #61 on attempting to tackle back creates the foul, good advantage shown and rolled despite position coming out of deep defence, allowing play to develop and lead away. @04:40 - great decision!! 1st tackle missed target, swept the stick backward using back of stick to disposes having missed first attempt. Intentional in 23. PC correct. Would warrant a green at least as well,

Pretty good in general, just a few I am curious about. -2:37 the save caused danger in my opinion. Ball went straight at the players from 2-3meter at most. They moved out of the way but the initial situation counts - what is wrong with the injections? I am probably overlooking it. - at 4:11 yes good view. The referees not seeing that happens really often in games. Honestly only see it called out 1/50 times. Idk why, still irritates me every play

@@wubbalubbadubdub5867 Injector has foot on baseline…13.3(d) = at least one foot must be outside the field of play…baseline is inside field of play (rule 1.8). GK save does not cause danger. Take a look at rule 9.8; from memory it is specific on also considering danger as causing legit evasive action by an *opponent*. Can cause evasive action on teammates as much as you’d like and it’s not danger under the rules. The GK save was travelling toward pink player (who would’ve had to take evasive). However the action that caused the danger was the green attacker stepping in with a miss-volley. Ump got this one wrong purely on account of not understanding (or not applying) the nuances of the rules correctly.

Quick response thanks. -my screen might be too small but if the foot is on the line it is only by a few centimeter it seems. Or did you see something different. He shifts it immediately forward but no foul as the ball already crosses the line. - oh now I see what you meant. You're right it is at the teammate and not the opponents which is stupid risky but not a foul. One thing though. It is a high ball and it would really go 8± centimeters past the two green attackers which is very close. It just seems bigger because the first guy jumped to the right. Doesn't that seem dangerous? Or what do you think? - I see something similar happening a lot that a defender pushes the ball out against the attackers stick and it bounces off to the sid. Referees don't account for it bouncing off in my experience, ever. Maybe there is a rule about it Is forgot but I always find it very weird that the attackers gets the ball in that case. This was not the perfect example, my fault. Sorry.

@@wubbalubbadubdub5867 The foot is on the baseline. Few centimetres or not. It’s not a foul, section 13 rules are procedural rules rather than conduct/fouls. Point about improper injections is just that the umpire is not paying enough attention to set the PC correctly. It’s sloppy and wouldn’t be acceptable if I did this while umpiring on Conference or Prem appointments.

@@wubbalubbadubdub5867 Re: the danger…as umps we should be looking at the specific action that caused the danger. The GK save, regardless of where it “would have gone” was at his teammate defender. The specific action that developed dangerous play was the green attack stepping in and attempting the volley. It’s too easy a cop out for umps to Ping for a PC in this scenario. Often happens. But isn’t high quality umpiring. Same as when a foot in the circle from a defender isn’t automatically a PC - 9.11 still applies including the “only a foul if causes disadvantage to opponents or gives an advantage to self/team” (paraphrased). Just because it’s in the circle doesn’t change 9.11 and it’s subnotes. Umps just don’t think it through properly and would rather auto-PC rather than deal with players challenging them and explaining proper rule application. Too many umps in UK hockey simply aren’t strong enough for the level they whistle at. Stems from both grassroots of umpiring where too many shoddy club umpires get their Level1 regardless of assessed performance, and also from the top where FIH doesn’t even have their international umpires run PCs properly under section 13 rules. Umps too busy putting in MMOs or Disreputes instead of focusing on being better.

Scott Hosick at the time yes, but a new rule introduced for 2018/19 made goalkeepers propelling the ball long distances illegal. Depends what level you play at really as to whether the umpire would know this. I believe for 2019/20 season a keeper will be able to use the left hand to move the ball greater distances which I will be attempting to make use of for some fun
@davidw4970
@davidw4970 Жыл бұрын
@@paulshepherd5649 The rule is 10.2(a) and has no determination on propelling ball over distance great or small. Is all connected to creating danger by taking advantage of the kit worn. 10.2(a) was in it's current form as long ago as 2012 when I first qualified and went onto the circuit. I remember being on tour in Barcelona playing in 2003 and it was allowed then. recall a super goal after an Andy Isaac's clearance went circle to 23m. Hasn't been allowed since at least 2012. A clarification may have come around in your region if umpires were not ruling on the item correctly, but there was no inclusion in the 18-19 rules cycle. The only change relevant in 18-19 was the change for a free hit in the 16 too be taken from anywhere in the 16. Nothing else about free hits was changed. removal of kicking back with GK privileges was the 18-19 cycle though. Are you thinking of that?
