The only downside I see is eventually there's gonna be a limit to the human body and once that record is set everyone who goes to beat it will be risking their life and after enough death people will have to stop. The pressures at those depths are insane and flesh has it's limits doesn't matter how much you train eventually they will hit crush depth and lungs will implode.
