I haven't read any of the books you feature in this video specifically but I wanted to comment because you conflate copyright infringement and plagiarism. They are similar but different concepts. Copyright infringement is a legal concept and it much more limited/is ultimately arbited in court. Plagiarism is an academic concept and is more broad. Academics have gotten in trouble for including the ideas of others without proper citation, but not in court. Copyright infringement also has specific defenses for parody or educational commentary(?) that can be used as a legal defense in court. I'm not a lawyer so i don't know all the intricacies here! Just that they do exist. For example I've read a couple genre books that just openly retell movies that are still copyright protected and I have no idea whether they would be considered infringement or plagiarism or what.

First off, happy booktube anniversary. 2nd i had to come look you up i bought Dracula ascending on a whim awhile ago and im so happy I did. I just started reading it on my kindle, im 50 pages in and loving it especially that you actually incorporated true crime as well. I cant wait to read the other 2. Im gonna need to get the physical copies to put on my library shelves.

I tried reading Mapping the Interior by Stephen Graham Jones & I was not a fan of his writing style either. I ended up dnfing it. I have My Heart is a Chainsaw by him which I still need to read…we’ll see how that goes!

I had no idea there were plagiarism accusations about Freida McFadden. It is quite an interesting conversation and I also have had a lot of fear as a writer of accidentally getting too close to someone else's story. There are SO MANY books out there and no plot idea is truly new. It's quite unnerving to me sometimes as I ponder my own writing and my story ideas.

The river looked so pretty & so relaxing! I’ve only read The Coworker by Freida McFadden, but have a few of her books. I do keep hearing all good things about The Housemaid which I also have. This was a fun video!
